How to make good, solid everyday outfits!

Making casual, stylish outfits is easy … when you have the right pieces! “Room 3” at Nordstrom was a blank canvas for me — can you imagine having everything at your fingertips? It was so much fun, and my friends and clients loved seeing all the special pieces I had picked out for them. The most important part of the styling session came at the end, after the selections were made. This was the highlight: pulling everything together, creating beautiful combinations, and making sure each piece was worth the purchase. After all, no one wants to come home with a gorgeous blouse and have nothing to go with it! We’ve all made that mistake before (wink).

This past week, my Nordstrom Stylist friends and I announced our January “N6 Drop” (a monthly drop of six of our favorite, best-selling items). We selected our favorite denim, the coziest Zella jacket, a reasonably priced bag we all fell in love with, and more. Today’s post is about how to make good, solid everyday outfits, and six pieces that will help you put them together. The must-have N6 drop pieces — January 2023

#1 Citizens of Humanity oversized shirt

Oversized poplin shirts have been a solid trend this past year, and the Citizens of Humanity “Kayla” shirt is an all time favorite! I purchased the navy one and wore it nonstop with white jeans, these caramel sandals and this straw bag. It’s comfortable, and perfect for most seasons depending on how you style it. If you want a short sleeved version, I also wore this one constantly, and it’s available in tan here and a blue stripe here.

#2 Paige flare denim

Paige is an all time favorite brand, and my three favorite fits include the Genevieve and Laurel Canyon — both long length flare jeans, and so so flattering! If you prefer a slightly cropped version, the Claudine is also very good. I’ve tested them all! Anthropologie has the Laurel Canyon in petites (my latest purchase), see more petite jeans here.

#3 Cardigans

Cardigans that are stylish and versatile are key in making everyday outfits. You only need a couple, and making sure they’re updated is key. I’m a little picky when it comes to cardigans, and right now, the ones I love include this coatigan below, the J.Crew Juliette cardigan, this Free People one and anything by Vince.

#4 Affordable crossbody bags

I’m always asked for affordable handbags, and two brands I absolutely love include AllSaints and Rebecca Minkoff. The styling on both brands is sophisticated and often designer-inspired. AllSaints is a little edgy at times, which I like to add to simple outfits for a little fun. This white bag is arriving any day, and I can’t wait to try it out!

#5 Zella pieces

Zella has some of the best pieces, and this Nordstrom-made brand is well priced and comfortable. The best-selling cozy fleece cardigan is perfect for travel, great for going to and from a workout, and of running daily errands. It runs big — I tested both the XS and XXS, and prefer the latter. Other pieces I like include this jacket, this long sleeve and this half zip.

#6 Cool sneakers

Every time my stylist friends and I meet up, we’re always wearing sneakers!! It’s often ones by Golden Goose, but we’re always looking for more affordable pairs that are also stylish and cool. The Sam Edelman Ethyls have been regular go-to’s. Cool sneakers were even on thee recent N6 Drop. We selected these ones by Dolce Vita, and although they don’t have great reviews on Nordstrom.com, three of us have tried them and agree they’re pretty great. I wore mine out and about the other day, and found them to be comfortable.
