These 6 items will make your outfits look expensive 🌟

Now that the holidays are behind us and the parties are over (I don’t count NYE!), it’s time to start thinking about stylish outfits that are suitable for everyday life. This means they should be warm, look and feel comfortable, and maybe even a little practical (!!) A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned I’m in a style rut (which I’ll be addressing in the new year), so finding other things to wear besides my pilly hoodie is in order!

There are certain items that add instant sophistication and elegance to any outfit. And, while they don’t need to be expensive, it doesn’t hurt if they look expensive! As a matter of fact, there are many great pieces that feel “designer” but cost a fraction of the price. This is the art of high/low dressing, and chances are the fashion girls who catch your eye on Instagram or Pinterest have this mastered.

Today’s post is about these 6 items that will make your outfits look expensive. I’m really excited to share these suggestions with you — hopefully they’ll inspire you to get dressed with ease and confidence this winter. Never again will you feel like you have “nothing to wear!”

#1 Get a good coat!

We’re definitely in coat season, and this is one area you can never have too many! And, the prices are reasonable right now. This new Mango coat arrived today (below), and it looks way more expensive than its $229 price point. Plus, this time of year everyone sees us in our coats, so make them super stylish!

Mango Favorites — I just purchased the far left one and love it!

#2 Beautiful jewelry (it doesn’t have to be expensive 😉)

Here’s the lowdown on layering: it’s the key to giving your jewelry an update using your own pieces. Adding a diamond layer or a gold chain link style to what you already own works magic! And, it doesn’t need to be the real thing. Recently, I saw a good friend who had the perfect necklace combo – at least 6 – and it looked elegant and beautiful. When I asked her about the butterfly she was wearing, she told me it was from her granddaughter — and it cost $12! Pretty sure everything else was real. Talk about high/low 😉. You too can master this look — check out my recommendations below.

#3 Camel anything looks expensive

Which color instantly adds sophistication and elegance to any outfit? Camel! No matter the time of year, it always elevates your look. For example, this oversized cotton poplin shirt is perfect to add to your wardrobe right now. If you prefer to not wear camel around your face, try a trouser like this new favorite Frame style. A camel coat is probably THE most important piece to own this season, and I love this wrap style from Anine Bing. For a cardigan option, this J.Crew style is hard to beat.

#4 Invest in the right denim

Denim has been a specialty of mine for over two decades, and I believe investing in a few go-to denim styles is the key to making all your outfits work. Make sure the wash and fit is current, and you’ll always feel quite put-together! Try dressing up your favorite pair by adding a blazer and strappy sandals to your denim — an easy combo that always works. Every day new styles roll in, and the brands I always gravitate towards are Frame, Mother, Paige and AG.

#5 All black always works

All black. It always, always elevates your look. Your outfit will appear more elegant and expensive, even if you scored a deal. Wear it any time of year — it looks great with literally everything! Some things are just worth the splurge, like a Veronica Beard blazer. A nice black blouse (my favorite is this Vince style) always works for both day and evening, and same with a black pant (mentioned below).

#6 Faux leather

Faux leather is a wardrobe classic at this point, and good faux can easily pass for real leather but at a fraction of the cost. For example, I’m loving these flowy pants, this belted trench, and this cool shirt jacket. Find a piece or two you love and you’ll wear it all the time. And honestly, you would never know faux leather isn’t the real thing! You’ll love this blazer — looks amazing with denim, and with a dress too.
