This is the best investment piece for your wardrobe

When I was fresh out of college AGES ago (wink), I landed my first job as a coat buyer for Nordstrom. Two days later, I was off to New York City to preview coats for the Fall season. It was a very exciting time; I got to experience New York in the 90’s, and I enjoyed every minute of it! That was the start of a lifelong love affair with the best coats … and I still love them to this day. A great coat is the best investment piece for your wardrobe — hands down!

Coats are also one of the MOST IMPORTANT pieces to have in your wardrobe. I always tell my friends and clients: you can never have too many coats and jackets! There are many options — both affordable and splurge. From lighter weight wool jackets to classics (above) to heavier weight coats, it’s a KEY piece.

And now, a tried & true style tip …

Keep in mind, when you’re out and about town running errands, picking up kids, attending sporting events, going out to dinner – everyone sees you in your outerwear, so sometimes whatever’s underneath doesn’t really matter 😉 Always make your coats and jackets stylish but practical, and don’t be afraid to purchase several. Trust me, you’ll wear them all!

Last week in NYC, and this morning while sipping my coffee and making daily rounds on the internet, I spotted some of the cutest coats in bright, pretty colors. So, I’m sharing brand new coats I think you’ll love with you below. And, since we’re at the beginning of a season, now is the time to add a few fun ones to your collection ♥️ The earlier you buy it, the more wearing time you get!

P.S. EVERYONE is having a Friends & Family Sale this weekend, which is super exciting for all of us! And, when you already have an item on your list and THEN you spot it on sale and grab it … it’s fun! Below are the pieces I’m excited to share with you, and many of the items in this post are temporarily on sale.

Faux leather coats

Left: Trench | Gucci cardigan | Denim | Boots | Gucci bag | Right: Jacket | Denim | Gucci bag | Boots | Scarf | Necklace

Faux leather/vegan leather coats and are EVERYWHERE this season. They’re super cool, and an easy way to update your coat collection. Also, the prices are reasonable, and the color assortment – black, tan and cream – is always elevated. Saks has a great selection here, and so does Nordstrom. Check out this coat and this shirt jacket.

J.Crew coats

Left: Green coat | Leggings | Boots | Sweater | Scarf | Tote | Right: Blue coat | Jeans | Loafers | Tote | Sweater | Scarf

Every year, I just love the coat selection at J.Crew. And, this year it’s even better! The colors are bright and happy, and you can find everything from a classic wool coat to a puffer to a trench. Many of their best selling coats are offered in petites sizing and extended sizing, which is wonderful for all of us. Also, they’re quite often on sale (including the two above). Check it all out here!

Everyday tweed coats

Left: Plaid coat | Cream sweater | Ivory denim | YSL bag | Boots | Scarf | Right: Herringbone coat | Denim | Boots | Hoodie | Bag

A great tweed coat or plaid jacket is always a nice addition to our wardrobes. Look for an affordable option, like the one above. I also spotted this herringbone one you might like. Tweed, plaid and herringbone are all really easy to work into an outfit because they are classic patterns that look good with everything!

Classic wool coats

Classic wool coats are definitely worthy of investment consideration. But, this well-priced one by Halogen proves you don’t need to spend lots of money to get a good looking one. For other options, look at the brands Fleurette, Lauren Ralph Lauren and Max Mara. All gorgeous —  and very good quality.

Double-faced wool

Some wool jackets and coats include a luxurious detail — they’re double-faced.  That is a feature that’s typically used in higher end brands, like Max Mara and other famous designers. However, right now there are many affordable options that look really expensive. This is a topic I’ve been wanting to talk about here for quite some time, and I pay extra attention when I find a good piece!

A couple of weeks ago, while shopping in NYC, I spotted this gorgeous coat in the Reiss store (it’s also available in petite sizes) — grab it while you can. Also, this Theory jacket is amazing, and it’s really versatile — I’m wearing it in this photo. I also love this Mackage wrap coat, and this style by Theory. All very very high quality.

Popular Puffer vests & Jackets

Left: Vest | Jogger | Sneakers | Tote | Hoodie | Scarf | Right: Puffer | Denim | Tote | Sneaker | Sweater | Hat

Talk about the perfect jacket for when you’re in-between seasons! Layer a hoodie under a puffer for extra warmth, or try a warmer coat over it. Either way, you can’t go wrong — you’ll feel warm but look cool 😉 I really love this Moncler, and I also like this vegan leather puffer. Everyone needs at least one puffer!

Trending Shirt jackets

Shirt jackets are trending again this year, and they’re SO easy to wear! The options are endless at ALL price points. The BB Dakota style is a best-seller, and the plaid one is a recent purchase and I love it. Check out this one, and this one too.
