Now is the time: 10 splurge items worth the investment (part 2)

… and some affordable options too!

Read 10 Splurge Items Worth The Investment, Part 1 here

It’s that time of year when we start seriously thinking about our fall wardrobes, and that often means making some “splurge” purchases, like boots, coats and handbags. After helping thousands of women over the years, one thing I know is that some of us like to purchase fewer but higher quality items, and some of us prefer to buy more items but without the designer price points. It doesn’t really matter where you fall — the most important thing is to add pieces that have longevity, that you absolutely love, and that you’ll wear with everything ALL THE TIME!! Easier said than done, I know … even I make some buying mistakes along the way. So, which ones are really worth it?

Today’s post is Part 2 of 10 splurge items worth the investment (click here to read Part 1). I own most of these, and I can tell you that I wear at least splurge one piece DAILY — that’s what makes it worth the investment! I prefer to have fewer items that work with all my outfits, even if initially they cost a little more. If you’ve been following me for a while, you often see the same bags, shoes and jewelry over and over again, because they go with everything. To me, owning these pieces makes getting dressed easier (and faster), and gives me an elevated look. Most of the time, I only add one splurge piece to the outfit, and it makes all the difference!

What about lower-priced items? I’m often asked to share lower priced items, and here’s the deal. I believe in mixing high and low, and the $59 utility jacket and Schutz sandals are good examples of that concept. But I will only share affordable options that I would either purchase myself, have read about, or own. In other words, I’m picky, and very selective with what I share here on So Susie. You can trust that I’m always doing my best for you 😊 Cheers!

#6 YSL handbags (splurge here)

Vince sweater | YSL Puffer bag | Frame coated denim | Schutz sandals

I love the YSL Puffer bag collection, and you can choose between sizes (I have the black Toy size). There are also clutches, and different hardware options as well. These bags are soft, really durable, and easy to get in and out of with one hand! I also happen to love the pretty chain detail, because I think it works nicely for a special event, or for everyday with a t-shirt and jeans. I also love the tote bag — it’s simple and classic, and I use it on every plane trip! The versatility of options is the perfect reason to splurge here — you can buy the exact one you want and you will wear it with everything. Believe me, it’s worth it 🙂

Affordable options

One of my favorite affordable handbag brands is Rebecca Minkoff. The styling is elevated, and the color options are classic. The best selection I’ve found is at Saks and Neiman Marcus.

#7 favorite fragrances (also splurge here 😉)

Baccarat Rouge 540 | La Labo Santal 33 | Gucci Guilty | Creed Royal Princess Oud

I LOVE perfume, and over the years have collected several different ones. I’m not sure why, but the ones I love happen to be a little on the expensive side. Maybe it’s because of all the years I worked at Nordstrom — I got hooked 😂 My tip here is to buy a travel size (costs less) and test it out. Or, of course, you can get testers, which I always do before spending a lot of money on a full bottle.

Some all time favorite fragrances include: Baccarat Rouge 540 (the #1 fragrance everywhere), Creed Royal Princess Oud, Le Labo Santal 33, Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede, Tom Ford Rose Prick and Gucci Guilty. Splurge on one you love (or hint for a birthday present 😉) and make it your signature! You might spend a little more, but it’ll be worth it.

#8 trench coats

Sandro trench | Paige denim – available in petite sizes | Prada pumps | Chloe tote

Depending on the climate where you live, investing in a great lightweight trench coat, especially a flowy one, is key! I absolutely adore this Theory one and have recommended it to many friends and clients. I own this silk style by M.M.LaFleur and noticed this color is brand new. These lighter weight trench coats are actually part of your outfit than just for adding just a little warmth. They’re more than a practical rain coat 🙂 You’ll wear them with everything, and because a trench is classic, you’ll have it for years to come. I just purchased this one by Sandro on my NYC trip, and I’m never taking it off. Well, until I have to switch to a winter coat 😉

Affordable options

This Sam Edelman trench is brand new, and I love the faux leather trim. Also, check out this Lauren By Ralph Lauren one. And, you can’t go wrong with this trench coat by J.Crew — it’s a good one!

#9 Strappy sandals and classic pumps

Cinq à Sept dress | Sandals | Amazon bag

If you have neutral strappy sandals (gold or nude) or a pump like this, you’ll be covered for pretty much any occasion. Since metallics are trending, you can easily substitute a gold sandal for a nude shoe. I’ve been wearing these Schutz sandals for years, and they always look good! If you want to splurge, Manolo Blahnik makes a designer pair. Also, right now slingbacks are everywhere, and I have my eye on these — they’re flattering on the foot, and very feminine.

Affordable options

Schutz, Vince Camuto and Sam Edelman are three favorite shoe brands I look to all the time. They always have designer-inspired options, and most of the time you’d never know which is which! It’s worth it to have a couple of affordable pairs that you can wear often. These three brands make comfy shoes that look good too.

#10 Designer tote bags

Vince sweater | Chloe tote | Mother Dazzler denim | Boots

I think tote bags are one of the best investments you can make. They’re practical, and you can use them for traveling or just for running errands around town. I often throw my crossbody bag in my tote in case I need a smaller option while I’m out and about. (I still love the YSL one I mentioned above.) The Chloe Woody collection is newer, and if you don’t mind a little logo, they’re perfect for adding some pattern to your outfits. I also love this Balenciaga, and this Loewe straw one too. Even if you just buy one, it’s worth it, because you will use it every single day!

Affordable options

Madewell always has some great options, and so does Rebecca Minkoff, Rag & Bone and AllSaints
