Welcome to my New Series … As of Late, July 2022

So Susie — everything I’m loving as of late 💕

Welcome to my new series … “as of late”

Hi everyone! Welcome to my new series … “as of late”  decided to switch things up a bit here on the blog, so once a month I’ll be sharing what’s happening in the world of design, food, travel, fashion and … life! It’s as if you’re sitting around with girlfriends having a glass of wine, and one of them has the inside scoop 🙂

Here are some topics I’ll be covering, along with whatever else interesting might come up. There’s what’s in my shopping bag, things that have caught my eye as of late (there’s always something), and exciting interior and exterior design projects. There are also food and cocktail recipes, travel plans and ideas, trends, and street style inspo 🌟

Of course, fashion is what we talk most about on So Susie, and that won’t change at all. But this will be a fun way for me to share my thoughts on some other interests you all seem to enjoy. I hope you like it 🥂 Cheers!

What has caught my eye as of late!

We’ve hit the 100 degree mark here in Portland, and as of late, everything that’s casual and cotton is catching my eye. This Ulla Johnson dress is so cute, and the soft, pale blue color is really pretty.

Today, I popped into Nordstrom, and came home with this Isabel Marant linen t-shirt which is perfect with this skirt. I would style it with these sneakers, this bucket hat and a cool pair of sunnies.

This oversized Rails cotton shirt is another great vacation piece, and I decided the bright pink will be perfect for our Italy trip next month. It also comes in green – to see it, click here.

Finally, I bought this handbag dupe from Amazon, and while I’m not big on dupes, I couldn’t resist this one. Speaking of bags at really good prices, I ordered this monogrammed one from Etsy-it arrives today!

The 20 best-selling beauty products everyone loves

Kiehl’s lotion | Gucci Flora Fragrance | Tom Ford Rose Prick travel sprayJo Malone Peony & Blush Suede

Recently, my daughter Em and I got sidetracked while clothes shopping and ended up in Sephora for over an hour! Since she’s up on the latest Tik Tok beauty videos, she had a long list of things to try, like Fenty Beauty lipgloss, this foundation and anything by Patrick TA. And, since I love fragrances, I spent a good deal of time trying to decide which rollerball(s) to come home with since they’re perfect for traveling and a great way to try out a new scent!

Latest Reels videos, and how to shop them

I love I I getting in my closet and making outfit combos to share on Instagram Reels. I shared this top which is SO GOOD, and it’s part of my recent Capsule Wardrobe. Click here to see the Reels video, and click here to shop it.

I realize it can be tricky to shop or get outfit details, and I’m working on a website re-design. But until then, you can find the Reels outfit boards on my Shop LTK page here. For other recent Reels outfits, I worked on this one where I share two blouses — this one from Paige, and this one from Alice & Olivia. They’re both really pretty and feminine.

Do you like matching bra and panty sets? If you do, click here to watch this video. All the matching sets can be found here, or on the Wacoal website under “what’s new.” Speaking of bras, I mentioned a “bra capsule” — i.e., the basics you need in every lingerie drawer!

Bedroom and bathroom reno

Bedroom: Green velvet bench | Pottery barn quilt and shams | Marble lamp | Diamonds book

Bathroom: Serena & Lily stool | Serena & Lily rug | Weezie towels | Bath mat | Gold pedestal table

Last year, we did a closet remodel, thanks to the Closet Factory in Portland. It has been life-changing, given my lifelong profession of helping all of us get dressed. Believe it or not, it was a neglected space, and I can tell you with certainty that having a well-organized closet is a real joy in life 🙂 And, while a bathroom remodel wasn’t in the plans, once the new closet came, it became pretty clear that the 22 year old bathroom needed to go 😂 Then, you know how it goes, you keep on going … so I gave our bedroom a little update too!

A few notable things: the green velvet bench from Ballard Designs was the finishing touch, and so were the white slipcovered side chairs around the antique table (I scored the table)! I used a Pottery Barn quilt and shams, and a simple white duvet cover at the foot of the bed. I found the botanical engravings hanging on the wall years ago on Ebay, and they’re by Elizabeth Blackwell. For the bathroom, I purchased monogrammed Weezie towels and these floor bathmats that we love. The rug and wicker bench are both from Serena & Lily. I love mixing things up by adding a few antiques here and there!

Travel updates: Wine Country at the Atticus Hotel

If you’re ever planning on coming to the Willamette Valley, McMinnville must be on your list of fun places to visit!

It’s quaint and charming, and I love it so much ❤️It’s my darling little hometown that’s all grown up!

The Atticus Hotel is my favorite, and honestly it’s hands down the best place to stay in Oregon Wine Country. The attention to detail is over the top, and it’s relatively new, but it feels like it’s been here forever.

Now it’s going to have some competition, because on July 13th, the Tributory Hotel opened, and we’re going to try it out next week. The chef who opened the attached restaurant has two Michelin stars, and that’s a first for McMinnville. I’ll report back after our visit!

Delicious recipes I’ve tried as of late

I’m always cooking new things, and after watching Stanley Tucci hop around the beautiful Amalfi Coast and southern Italy, all I really want to eat is pasta!! But most nights, it’s pretty simple around here, and this go-to kale salad is really really good. I’ve also been following Erin O’Brien on Insta, and not only is she so so sweet, her recipes are delish. Finally, if you have mint growing in your garden, I highly recommend my Mom’s mint tea, which is just a bunch of rinsed homegrown mint squished into a glass with a small teaspoon of honey and some hot water! So refreshing, even on a summer day 🙂

Speaking of food, If you’re in the NW Portland area, grab some authentic Thai food at the brand new Phuket Cafe. Now I know why there’s always a long wait! It happened to be crazy hot yesterday, and because most people stayed home, we were finally able to have dinner there. The food and cocktails were yummy, and I’m still full a day later 🙂

Q & A

I love the oversized poplin shirt you’ve been wearing – does it run true to size? Yes, I would say it runs true to size, keeping in mind that it’s meant to be slightly oversized. For reference, I’m wearing an XS – click here to see details.

Can you recommend a budget friendly white sneaker? Yes – the one I love is by Sam Edelman called Ethyl. I noticed it’s currently out of stock at Nordstrom, but keep checking because it’s a staple item.

Love your capsule wardrobe ideas, are you working on a fall one? I am most definitely working on a Fall one, I love creating them! To view the last one, click here and to see part 2, which is the secret to a capsule wardrobe (!!), click here!

What’s your favorite Wacoal bra that you wear every day? That’s a tough one, but I’d say it’s between the Softly Styled one or the Soft Sense, which I’ve been wearing a little more lately! I shared the Soft Sense one here along with the matching panty.

What’s your opinion on the Farm Rio dress and if it’s suitable for travel packed in a suitcase? I packed mine and wore this past week. It was a wrinkled mess, but so was everything else! I used the hotel iron, and it came out perfectly!

Thank you for reading! xx
