Jake is off to college!
Everything you need to send your young one off to college!
It’s hard to believe my baby is heading off to college this fall! While it’s bittersweet for sure, I’m excited for what’s to come for him. We’ve been wrapping up all the last minute details, and now the fun begins: buying all the college necessities 😊 So, to make things easy, we did a little shopping online at Walmart, where you can use Walmart’s college checklist on Walmart.com (or in the app) to quickly find and shop for everything you’ll need. Of course, we found some great basics, like a shower caddy for $5, a Keurig machine for $73 and nice bedding for under $25. Walmart is the PERFECT place to get everything you need (for less) to send your young one off to college!
Click here to see the incredible selection of all the essentials available at Walmart. I’m sharing everything we purchased, plus some other ideas you might want to consider. And, I had a little help from my assistant Eilise, who recently graduated from the University of Oregon, so you can be sure these picks are spot on. Happy shopping and enjoy sending your child off for a fun adventure!

Love this cozy chair — perfect for any dorm room
For late night studying or getting started in the morning, a Keurig is a must
Keurig coffee maker - $73.00
A Keurig coffee maker is key to late night studies! It’s pretty much a dorm room staple.
Desk lamp - $15.88
When this desk lamp arrived, Jake immediately said yes please. It's cool-looking, modern and practical
A great way to stay in touch with your student and keep them on schedule. It can also help keep them on track with monitoring healthy habits.
Fujifilm Insta Max Mini Camera - $78.00
An mini-insta camera is always a fun thing to have in college. My daughter loved hers, and she used the photos as decorations in her dorm room.
Vanity mirror - $28.10
We all need a vanity mirror, and this one is a total deal!
Folding butterfly chair - $35.00
Extra seating is always useful, and this chair is perfect for smaller spaces because it folds up.
Google Nest Smart Speaker - $100
Most students are on the go, this speaker is the perfect size to take everywhere!
Microfiber pillow set - $15.98
Nothing like starting out with fresh pillows -- and this microfiber set is well-priced.
6 Piece Towel Set - $12.98
A good towel set is a college essential for sure. My advice is to stay away from white … not sure they will get washed as much as at home 😉
Bluetooth earphones - $14.88
Lightweight, wireless headphones with a pop of fun color are a great way to enjoy music and not bother your neighbors.
Storage Cubes - $34.84
No college dorm or apartment ever has enough storage. These bins are a great option. They’re easy to assemble and don't take a lot of space
Storage Bins - $16.00
These fabric cubes are sturdy, and a great way to add some color to your room. They can be used to hold clothes, school supplies or whatever else you have.
Mini Beverage Fridge - $116.00
My two older kids both used a mini-fridge in their dorm rooms to keep drinks and snacks cold. So, Jake is asking for one as well! This one is affordable, and a nice size.
Command Hanging Strips - $7.77
Command strips are your best friend in a college dorm room. They make it easy to decorate and not break the "no holes in walls" rules!
Accent Rug - $22.97
An accent rug can go a long way toward making your room look more cozy and warm!
Wow he looks older than most college bound kids.
