The 7 biggest shoe trends of the summer!

Many of us have a love affair with shoes, and no matter what, you’re bound to find a pair that will fit! It’s the easiest way to make (or break) any outfit. While you don’t need a zillion shoes, owning several key pairs that are stylish and on-trend are the perfect way to update all your summer outfits. Your outfits will always come together if you have versatile shoes at your fingertips — let me explain.

After helping thousands of women in the dressing room over the last two decades, I’ve found that the right bottom and a simple, neutral shoe is the starting combo of every outfit. If you’ve been in “Room 3” with me, you know that we can’t even get started until we find the best-fitting bottom piece. Once we do, adding a neutral shoe allows us to proceed with everything else! In other words, all your cool jackets, blouses, and fun summer tops will go with just one jean and shoe combo. If I ever do a style training of sorts for future stylists, this will be the #1 tip. But for now, I’m sharing it with all of you 😊

So, today’s post is about something we all love … shoes! I’m covering the seven biggest shoe trends of the summer, but there are some I’m skipping, like the fisherman sandal trend — no thank you! 😂 Keep reading to see what the shoe trends actually are, a little street style inspo, and which shoes might be worth adding to your cart. Cheers!

P.S. I just launched my first video on YouTube, and while I still have a lot to learn, I’m pleased with how it turned out! Click here to watch it — and notice that all the outfit links are included in the description. I’d love to know what you think 😊 The next one is in the works, so look for it next week. Susie’s sandal style

Metallic shoes

Vince top | Page top | Paige denim | YSL camera bag | Gold strappy sandal | Gold block heel sandal | Necklace

This shoe trend is at the top because it might be the one I’m most excited about 😉 Metallic shoes are so versatile, and if you find ones in a soft metallic color, they really can be a great substitute for a neutral colored shoe. They’re new and different, and this year, the selection is amazing. See below for my favorite picks.

Wedges are popular

Rails top | Mother denim | Metallic wedge | Tan wedge | Orange bracelet | Denim jacket | Tote

Wedge sandals might be the biggest trend this summer, and I’ve started seeing them everywhere. Last year, I almost bought these by Jeffrey Campbell, and I regretted it after they sold out. So, this year, I’m not taking any chances! They’re super comfortable and also very versatile, and you’ll wear them all the time.

Open toe heels

Dot dress | Navy blue dress | Schutz sandals | L’agence pointy toe sandals | Straw bag | White bag | Necklace | Scarf

The go-to sandal for summer, open toe heels are perfect for dresses, jean outfits, and even dressier shorts (which is another summer trend I’m loving, especially when paired with a blazer). If y0u’re up for trying something new, a pointed toe sandal like this gorgeous L’agence one is so good — I’ve been wearing them with everything lately (see photo above). The open toe heel sandal options are endless, and the heel heights can be anything from a couple of inches to over three.

Continuing shoe trends: Jellies

Paige blouse| AGOLDE denim shorts | Chl0e tote | Jeffrey Campbell rubber slides | Gucci rubber slides | Earrings | Sunnies | Hat

The rubber sandal trend continues, and many brands have copied or made their own versions of this favorite by Gucci. (Check out this pair that my friend Danielle was recently wearing, or the Jeffrey Campbell version). They’re surprisingly comfortable, and make the perfect shoe for casual summer outfits.

Bright colors

Cinq A Sept blazer | Silk cami and matching skirt | Denim | Green sandals | Orange sandals | Clutch | Earrings

A friend recently sent me a photo of her wearing an all-black outfit with the Bottega green sandals. Wow, talk about a show stopper! Brightly colored sandals can bring the most basic outfit to life. I’ve been eyeing these by Stuart Weitzman, and for an affordable option, check these out. Try this trend with pretty white dresses, or your favorite denim. So fun and stylish for summer!

Neutrals

Allsaints jacket and pant | Raffia clutch | Ring | Clear strap sandal | Ankle strap sandal | Cami

If you only get one shoe, then a neutral colored shoe is it! You can never have too many, and they literally go with everything. As I mentioned above, neutral shoes are the starting point of every outfit — try a pair and you’ll see how versatile they are.

Embellished party shoes

Cardigan | Pink shirt | Denim | White bag | Pink shoe | Heeled sandal | Earrings

Since the early days of the pandemic, when all the embellished Amina Muddai sandals sold out, the embellished party shoe trend has been really inspiring me. Nordstrom started carrying the brand Mach & Mach, and they have the most gorgeous shoes (click here to see the selection). Luckily for many of us, there are now many different versions inspired by these two brands. They aren’t just for fancy events  either — try a pair with a t-shirt and jeans.
