These 6 pieces make the perfect weekend capsule
A couple of weeks ago, two of my Nordstrom6 stylist friends came to visit me in Portland, and this time they brought their husbands 😊 Thankfully the weather cooperated for our adventures, which included a couple of nights at the Atticus Hotel in my cute little hometown of McMinnville. The N6 bonded since the early days of the pandemic, and honestly, I can’t imagine life without them! We text daily about all sorts of things, from personal news to styling tips to everything fashion related. We’ve also confided in each other and celebrated our wins and losses … and even shed a tear or two 🙂 I’m so so grateful to be in the company of these awesome girl bosses!
So, how do you pack for a weekend of fun and activities, including a Nordstrom visit, wine tasting and just lounging around? Since I’m usually in my home office writing this blog in slippers (!!), I took the opportunity to wear some of my favorite things to go out and about — and I believe these 6 pieces make the perfect weekend capsule. Below you’ll find some things we all own (in different sizes), like the ATM t-shirt, slip dresses and easy sandals. Hopefully you’ll get a little inspo and some ideas for your upcoming trips!
P.S. I just launched my first video on YouTube, and while I still have a lot to learn, I’m pleased with how it turned out! Click here to watch it — and notice that all the outfit links are included in the description. I’d love to know what you think, so please comment in the section below the video. Style board inspo – weekend capsule
#1 Denim, denim, denim
Packing a pair of jeans (or two or three), depending on your destination, is key. Usually this time of year I bring three pairs: white or écru, black and blue. Of course, you might make other choices if the weather where you’re going is very hot (i.e. dresses), but generally, denim is a good option. It is truly the backbone of our wardrobes!
My favorite denim
Hands down, the ATM t-shirt is a favorite, and all three of us packed it! It’s a little bit of a splurge, but I can’t say enough good things about it. Dressy enough to wear under a blazer, this arm-flattering, slightly forgiving tee is worth every penny! Other options to pack include a tank (this one is my favorite), and a v-neck style like the Frame one Danielle is wearing under her blazer (above).
Straw totes, easy slide sandals and Golden Goose sneakers are THE shoes to pack on almost every vacation … and don’t forget fun jewelry and sunglasses! While shopping at Nordstrom, we ALL fell in love with these Prada sunglasses (Danielle spotted them), and we all ended up purchasing them! This tennis necklace is a love — and it’s currently in stock here. Don’t wait on this one — it’s so good it’ll be gone in no time.
#4 Perfect Slipdresses
Sorry to keep going on about the perfect slipdress, but it’s pretty much the dress to own and it hardly takes up any room in your suitcase. It’s super versatile, and works with everything from sneakers to sandals. Vince is a favorite brand, and we all own it in two colors!! The Farm Rio one is so cute, and both Danielle and I own this fun summer dress.
#5 Blazers are necessary
Versatile blazers, like the relaxed Cinq á Sept style, work with almost everything, including dressier shorts, denim (of course) and slip dresses. It’s a good idea to bring at least one on any vacation. Both Danielle and I recently purchased this one for $119; it looks WAY more expensive than it is, and the fabric is similar to the Cinq á Sept one. It’s also available in extended sizes!
#6 Fun tops
For a day of wine tasting, we all ended up wearing fun tops and denim. This Vince puff sleeve that Sandy has on is SO cute, I decided to purchase it as well in black, and I made this Reels video about it the other day. Danielle finds the best pieces, and her one-shoulder top is a total deal at $59. The AllSaints cami in the pretty pale blue print is really versatile, it looks great under a denim jacket like mine, and it also works under the Anine Bing utility jacket.
