5 pieces that level up all your outfits! 🙌

I’ve tested them all 🙂

There are some things I’m pretty passionate about, and one of them is jackets! You mostly hear me talk about paring down, choosing wisely, and owning the basics — but this is one area you can go all out; in other words, level up and grab some new ones. As a matter of fact, I kind of think you can’t have too many jackets. The idea is once you have a great layering piece, amazing fitting jeans and go-to shoes, then any outfit style works. So, when you’re out shopping with your bestie, look for these 5 pieces … they’re super easy to incorporate into your wardrobes!

Today’s post is about 5 jackets that are SO GOOD, you could/should own all of them. The ones I’ve selected are versatile, good for most seasons and work for almost everyone. They all make many different outfits (very important), but they’re also really stylish and I guarantee you’ll wear them all the time. Keep reading to see a little style board inspo on outfit ideas for each item.

P.S. The So Susie website has gotten a big update! First, we’ve been adding a few shops – vacation, travel, and just yesterday – denim – it’s been so fun working on them, I hope you like them! There’s also a style boards section to make it a little easier to shop, click here to see them. If you’re new to So Susie and want to stay up to date on all things stylish, subscribe now and never miss a post!

Theory trench

The first of the 5 pieces is this amazing Theory trench. This piece has been a clear winner in the dressing room and a personal favorite in my own closet. It’s not really a coat, but more of an elegant, cool jacket that’s a little bit unexpected. If you are wearing a dress and need extra warmth, it’s perfect. If you need a cool jacket with a t-shirt and jeans, it’s perfect. Click here and here to see how I’ve worn it over the years!

Theory trench | ATM tee | Frame denim | SW boot | Gucci bag | Black scarf

Other outfit options

Theory trench + Rails dress + Tall boot

Theory trench + Blouse + Work pant

Madewell leather jacket

One of the best-selling jackets at both Madewell and Nordstrom, this relaxed leather jacket is perfect. The second of the 5 pieces is soft, versatile, and works almost all year long. Some leather jackets are stiff and uncomfortable, but not this one. I decided to add it to my own collection today, and for reference, I went up a size for comfort and the option to layer. Try it over a t-shirt dress, with a t-shirt and jeans, or with joggers and sneakers.

Madewell leather jacket | Earrings | Blouse | Handbag | Ring | Paige denim | Gucci Perfume | Veronica Beard Sandal

Other outfit options

Madewell leather jacket + Slip dress + Sandals

Madewell leather jacket + White shirt + Jeans

Cinq a sept blazer

The third of the 5 pieces is a relaxed blazer that’s not crazy oversized is hard to come by. This best-selling “Khloe” blazer is always selling out, and until recently was completely unavailable at Nordstrom. It has just been re-stocked though, so I decided to add the black. I rarely buy two colors in the same style, but this blazer is versatile, year round and looks good with everything!

Cinq a Sept Blazer | Earrings | Skims slip dress | Gucci Bronzer | Sunglasses | Cult Gaia sandals | Handbag

Other outfit options

Blazer + Cami + Denim

Blazer + Cream blouse + Faux leather pants

J.Crew cardigan

The Juliette cardigan by J.Crew is another top piece in my own wardrobe, and so when I spotted this light gray one in stock, I started imagining all the outfit possibilities. Perfect for lightening up outfits as we head into the new year, and warm but not too warm, this is the fourth of the 5 pieces that will definitely level up your outfits!

J.Crew cardigan | Loewe sneaker | Lip scrub | Scarf | Paris tee | YSL bag | Brinker & Eliza necklace

Other outfit options

Cardigan + Black pant +  Boots

Cardigan + White shirt + Jeans

The last of the 5 pieces: double faced wool jacket

Theory does it again with the Clairene jacket that’s the perfect weight for in-between seasons. It’s relaxed, and looks way more expensive than it is. This camel color is so pretty, and I absolutely love it with white heading into spring — and light faded denim now.

Theory jacket | Pattern turtleneck | YSL bag | Scarf | Gold sandals | Denim | Belt | Earrings

Other outfit options

Clairene jacket + Camel sweater + Black jeans

Clairene jacket + Graphic tee +Jeans

  1. Hi Susie! I have a question about the Cinq a Sept Klohe blazer. I also bought it in a black crepe but just recently found it on sale for $200 less in black satin. Is the satin just as wearable as the crepe in your opinion? Love your website and thank you for always sharing great tips and advice!

    Thank you,
    Tammy

  2. I finally ordered that black scarf You have featured it so much! I am going on a trip next week and had to have it!! I am also taking my theory jacket in an eggplant color which I love! Really enjoy your posts even though I am old and not sure of some of the things for me.

  3. I want to order the cardigan from JCrew. I am also petite 5’1”, does it fit you ok on the length and pocket. First time I have posted, I really enjoy your site, so much great information. Happy New Year!
