Shoes, shoes, shoes … these 6 are all you need!

Most of us have a love affair with shoes, and no matter what, you’re bound to find a pair that will fit! It can be easy to get carried away and buy a fun pair of shoes on a whim — which you should, as long as the basics are covered. Owning several key pairs of shoes that work with many different outfits is always a great starting point. Why? Because your outfits will always come together if you have versatile shoes at your fingertips! Let me explain.

After helping thousands of women in the dressing room over the last two decades, I’ve found that the right bottom and a simple, neutral shoe is the starting combo of every outfit. If you’ve been in “Room 3” with me, you know that we can’t even get started until we find the best fitting jean, or trouser, or bottom half. Once we do, adding a neutral shoe allows us to proceed with everything else! In other words, all your cool jackets, blouses, coats will go with just one jean and shoe combo. If I ever do a style training of sorts for future stylists, this will be the #1 tip. But for now, I’m sharing it with all of you 😊 Today’s post is about something we all love! Shoes, shoes, shoes … these 6 are all you need to make hundreds of cute outfits!

P.S. This past week I shared “6 Essential Items That Work For Everyone” — and they all happen to be black! It’s my way of saying thank you for subscribing to So Susie. #1 Neutral Boots

Since we’re in boot season and have several more months of wearing time, having a couple of go-to’s is key. A neutral colored boot in a camel or beige looks very sophisticated, and works beautifully as you head into early spring. I love a neutral boot with denim, and with écru or white denim, it looks amazing. See below for my favorite picks — all top sellers and stylist favorites!

#2 Black boots

Last year, I was missing my own basic black everyday boot. Somehow, I did survive last winter, but when I found this pair a few months ago, the outfit possibilities opened up and I’ve been wearing them on repeat! So, learn from my mistake and invest in cool black boots, they’ll go with everything! Whether you prefer a dressier boot like this Stuart Weitzman one, a knee high boot, or a lower heeled everyday one like this — you’ll likely wear them all the time.

#3 Loafers

Loafers are the shoe to buy this season! Perfect for running around every day, and they will make all your outfits cool and stylish. I’m currently looking for my own pair, and right now considering these or these. The Gucci mules are always a great option, everyone loves them, and if you want a more affordable choice, look at Sam Edelman — both the mule and loafer are Gucci-inspired!

#4 Slingbacks

This is another style we’re going to see everywhere in 2022, like this Gucci pair (love), these Pradas and these Diors. This is one reason looking at the designer versions are so cool — then when when you pop into Zara and spot a designer-inspired version, you know you’re on the right track. I purchased this Zara pair several months ago (see this photo and this Reels video), and a friend who has spent a lifetime in the Nordstrom designer department thought they were Prada! Yay me! Side note: style sling back shoes with denim or a black pant, but make sure the top part is sophisticated in order to achieve an elevated look.

#5 Sandals

For the past few years I’ve worn a pair of simple black and neutral block heel sandals (these) and they have covered me for almost every outfit! Getting a simple pair like the ones below that aren’t overly summery gives you a longer wearing time — like March-September, weather depending of course!

#6 Court shoe or pump

I think a neutral pump is something that belongs in almost everyone’s wardrobe. I’ve worn this Prada pair for several years, and the color and heel height are perfect. They work with everything from casual sweaters to pretty blouses to blazers or jackets of any kind. In this case, I prefer a skin color over black — they’re leg-lengthening. Enough said!
