I’m wearing these 7 items after visiting LA ☀️

A handful of weeks ago, I took a work trip to Los Angeles for meetings, business brainstorming, trend shopping and people watching. When visiting LA I always feel inspired, and usually return home on idea overload! Some ask, what exactly is “blog research” and why do you do it? Well, trend shopping, or “blog research” as I call it, is where I check out all our favorite stores to see the merchandise in person. As we all know, shopping online isn’t always easy, and seeing the product firsthand helps me select the items I’m going to feature in the blog. I take this all very seriously (!!). You can read the blog post I wrote here to see all the cool things I found while visiting LA.

When I got back to Portland, Bobby Schuessler, the Senior Editor at Who What Wear, happened to notice that I had visited SoCal, and he wanted to know which items I started wearing more of after being influenced by, as he put it, “that effortless California aesthetic.” Of course I was happy to share, and you can read the article “I’m a Former Nordstrom Buyer, and I’m Wearing These 7 Items After Visiting LA” here. We’ve worked on many articles together for the past 20 months, and just yesterday, this one was published too — SO exciting! If you’re wondering why I always write about the articles here on the blog, here’s the scoop: I provide the photos, quotes and specific items for WWW, and then the team over there selects the items that are clickable. They always pick the coolest things, but here on my blog you’ll always get my picks. I hope you like them!

Longline coats

Banana Republic coat, similar | Anine Bing tee | Paige Cindy | Prada pumps

“Longer coats worn with matching sets or simple tees, hoodies, and denim are so cool. The styling options are endless, and they definitely make a statement.”

Other coat favorites

This Anine Bing coat is on my personal wish list

Faux-leather pieces

BB Dakota dress – also here | Similar boots | Marc Jacobs crossbody bag | Gucci sunglasses

“Faux-leather is a trend I hope never fades away. Everyone is wearing it, and so many of the cool pieces are also affordable! Elevate your outfit effortlessly with just this one piece.”

Some other faux leather pieces that caught my eye!

They don’t need to be black – love this trench!

Knit dresses

Theory trench | Zara shoes,| BB Dakota $39 dress | Gucci bag

“Always easy and perfect for LA’s casual lifestyle. I love styling knit dresses with sneakers on the weekend, but also dressing them up a bit for work. There are so many choices right now! Look for ones that aren’t too bulky so you can easily throw on a jacket.”

Other dress favorites

I have my eye on this cozy one

Sharp blazers

“A tailored blazer is a classic, and it works perfectly with denim and sneakers. You can also dress it up for work and dinner (and post-dinner drinks).”

Some good blazer options

This knit style is SO good, I tried it on yesterday – it reminds me of the Rag & Bone one, but for way less $$!

Cool Sneakers

Fidelity denim jacket | Beyond Yoga pants | Rag & Bone sneakers | YSL bag | Anine Bing t-shirt

“Sneakers of all kinds were everywhere, and I’m looking for a clean white retro pair next.”

Sneaker favorites

I’m eyeing these for my own collection

Easy Cardigans

Vince cardigan | Frame coated denim | Schutz sandals | YSL puffer bag

“Talk about a versatile piece! Style this cardigan buttoned with pretty jewelry and high-rise denim, or layer a tee under it. This is a trend that will easily go into next year.”

Cardigan favorites

This Vince cardigan keeps selling out, but I found it here — it’s perfect with the Vince slipdress!

Pretty Blouses

Vince blouse | Frame coated denim | Schutz sandals | Mansur Gavriel bag | Bracelet

“Pretty blouses are the perfect going-out tops to pair with denim. They’re dressier than a tee, but still casual and comfortable. I always think black blouses work magic, but so do special print ones that catch your eye.”

Other pretty blouse options

This is the newest one to add to your collection
