The style trick that works every time, 6th edition 🎄
So … what is the style trick that works every time? Mirror selfies, of course! I’ve been talking about mirror selfies for years because it’s a foolproof way to check your outfit. There’s something about looking at yourself in a mirror vs looking at a photo that helps you see more clearly whether your outfit makes sense. If you have an important event, or are just packing for a trip, mirror selfies always help when it’s time to make final outfit decisions. And I must admit, until I started this little Instagram and blog journey, I NEVER dreamed I would be taking photos of myself all the time 😂
Because I’m always playing around with outfit combos and trying out new pieces, I have tons of mirror selfies on my phone. These photos are not perfectly edited, and not perfectly posed or put together, but they’re definitely real life. A little messy, a little imperfect … which is sometimes how we feel! This is how I decide which outfits look good, because there are some combinations that don’t go well together. Today’s post is about recent pieces I’ve tried, like the new Zara houndstooth coat (so cute), a polka dot blouse (love) and a spring dress you’ll be excited to wear. I put them together and made 12 outfit combos I think you’ll like! Don’t forget to try mirror selfies — I promise it works 😉

#1 Zara coat + Black blouse
Every now and then I pop into Zara – mainly for “blog research” — because in a quick ten minutes, I can easily see what’s trending! I always find something that catches my eye, like these neutral shoes I’ve been wearing on repeat. But last week, it was the houndstooth coat above — SO CUTE, and comfortable too. (It runs true to size, I’m wearing the XS.) I’ve also had a lot of favorable comments on this black blouse by Frame — everyone loves the puff sleeves. I also have this blouse in a leopard print (see here). It runs tts and is perfect for most seasons.
#2 Vince jersey dress + Balenciaga wallet on chain
I love having go-to dresses, especially ones that work for day or night, and I always take mirror selfies to make sure everything looks good. This brand new one by Vince in this gorgeous shade of brown is a slim style that’s very flattering. It will work perfectly for a luncheon or a day at the office, then switch up the jewelry for an evening event. I’m wearing these Spanx underneath for extra smoothing. For reference I’m wearing an XXS (which is unusual – typically it would be an XS), and I had the dress hemmed and the belt loops removed.
#3 Polka dots + Fidelity denim
Polka dots get me every time, and this pretty blouse by Ganni is a fun one! It runs a little roomy and is sheer, so you’ll need a skin colored cami or bra. Consider the matching skirt — then you can mix and match. The Fidelity slim straight jeans I’m wearing run big, so size down. I added the ivory Cinq a Sept blazer, which is a wardrobe staple and goes with everything!
#4 Veronica Beard blazer
I can’t say enough about this Veronica Beard blazer, I’ve probably worn it a hundred times already! It’s reminiscent of a Balmain style, and it’s nicely shaped, plus the hidden zipper allows for all the cool dickeys to be added! (For reference, I’m wearing a size 2 but usually I’m a size 4.) Anine Bing tees are so cool, and they go with everything from joggers to denim to blazers. This style of Mother denim is called the Hustler, which is a favorite fit! Lastly, this clutch is such an easy way to add a little color, and here are new colors I spotted recently.
#5 Frame striped dress + Vince mules
Looking ahead to spring, this new Frame dress is perfect for warmer weather. I quickly ordered it because it reminded me of the blouse version that sold out right away last year. (It’s brand new in the same stripe here). This will go perfectly with white sneakers or flat sandals. I’m eyeing these, or you could try a block heel sandal like the Vince one I’m wearing above!
#6 Treasure & Bond $69 sweater + Coated denim
This one-shoulder sweater sells out every year! It’s a great price, super cozy and a little bit sexy. It runs tts or maybe a touch roomy, I’m wearing the XS with this best-selling strapless bra.
#7 Vuori jogger
Yes, yes I know, I’ve talked about the Vuori jogger nonstop for the last year. It has pretty much been my go-to comfy pant, and my friend swears she has worn hers EVERY DAY since she got them (I believe it)! I’m convinced that EVERYONE should own a pair or two, including the men in your lives, which I wrote about here. Not only are they SO comfy but really versatile too! I just did a Reels video this morning, showing them 3 ways, which you can watch here. Pretty sure you’ll love them!
#8 Fleece shirt jacket + Levi’s 724
This Treasure & Bond shirt jacket is so comfy, I wore this outfit all day today! These sneakers are a total splurge, and I haven’t fully decided if I’m keeping them, but I’ve been looking for my next pair to wear all spring and summer. These are by Alexander McQueen and happen to the the hot new sneaker. They have a wedge, which just looks cool! Wearing the Levi’s 724, which I’ve gone on and on about — they’re total favorites, and fit everyone under 5’6″-5’7″.
#9 ATM sweater dress + Stuart Weitzman boot
Sweater dresses are so easy, and I love them with tights and boots like these pointy toed ones from Stuart Weitzman. They also look amazing with tall boots or an otk (over-the-knee) style. Add a cozy wrap coat and you have another great daytime outfit!
#10 Frame puff sleeve sweater + Mother denim
One of my favorite sweaters this season, this Frame puff sleeve quickly sold out earlier in the season. I found it here and here for you. I’m wearing Mother Insider jeans in the “I Confess” wash, which is a go-to in my denim rotation. Definitely size down, because these stretch out due to less lycra than other Mother denim.
#11 Vest + ATM tee + Jeans
Vests have been trending all year, and I’ve been wanting to try one, so when I spotted this cute pink one I quickly ordered it! & Other Stories is a newer fashion brand Nordstrom just started carrying, and the fashion pieces are good and quickly changing. Check out the collection here!
#12 Embellished tee + Kick Flare Pants + Red shoes
This pretty Veronica Beard embellished puff sleeve has been my holiday go-to top this season! It runs a touch small, so if you’re between sizes go up. It would also be perfect for any NYE gathering you might have, unless you’re in pj’s by 9, like I am 😂
#13 Cinq a Sept sweater & Mother denim
This cut-out sweater has been a top seller on So Susie over the last couple of months. The ivory is so pretty, and this sweater will work into the beginning of next year (I sized up to a small). These Mother Dazzler jeans have been my everyday go-to lately. They’re a flattering, slim straight leg jean.
#14 BB Dakota shirt jacket + Mother denim + Clogs
BB Dakota makes some of the coolest pieces at really reasonable prices. I loved this shirt jacket so much I actually went to the trouble to have it shortened! It’s still a little long, but it’s cozy and I love it. The clogs are by the brand No.6 and I find them really comfy, easy to slip on, and also foot flattering.
