Where to shop in New York City … and what to wear

Several weeks ago, my little team and I headed to NYC for some trend shopping, street style spotting and, of course, eating! We had SO much fun, and I came home with lots of inspiration to share with you. Not only did we see cool trends all over the streets, we also ventured into many stores, including Veronica Beard, Intermix, Nordstrom (of course), Reiss, Sandro … to name a few (see this recent post). Today’s post is a recap of where to go in New York City … and what to wear while you’re there!

So, what on earth do you pack for four days of fun activities, including a photo shoot, brunch in Brooklyn, cocktails and dinners, and a night out on our hotel’s famous rooftop bar? Well, from a “what do I wear” standpoint, it all sounded a little overwhelming … so I decided to make style boards for each event. Hopefully, you’ll get some ideas for your own upcoming trips! Disclaimer: some of the items on the boards are just wish items — in other words, they didn’t all come with me. But, I sure had fun dreaming about these pieces and making the boards! I hope you like them 🙂

PUBLIC Hotel

Public Hotel, New York, NY

The PUBLIC Hotel was super cool, maybe even a little “too cool” for my liking! The rooftop bar was a people-watching scene, and was the ideal spot for happy hour before heading out for dinner (more below). The lobby/bar is beautifully designed, and was perfect for work or just relaxing after a LOT of walking! We were grateful for this space since the rooms were tiny — and the zen, minimalist décor was not my preference — but that is to be expected in NYC. The hotel is clearly more interested in vibe than customer service, and though it was fun to stay there once, I’ll try someplace different on my next trip.

The “NYC uniform”

stylish but casual

Theory jacket | Denim | Reebok sneakers | Bracelet | Chloe tote | Anine Bing tee | Sunglasses

Every cool girl was wearing some variation on this outfit: an oversized blazer, faded denim and white sneakers, topped off with a baseball hat and designer bag. What I love about this combo is that everyone looks good in it — it’s the perfect example of ageless style! P.S. How cute is this brand new tote by Chloe?!

Susie’s travel outfit

so comfy

Moncler jacket | Vuori jogger | Zella top | Red bag | Poppy Finch necklace | Baseball hat | YSL tote | Sneaker | Scarf

I can’t think of a better outfit to wear for traveling, especially with a long plane ride! The Vuori joggers are SO comfy (and still stylish), and this new Zella t-shirt is a top seller. I highly recommend it in any color. Lately, this sleek YSL tote has been my go to, and this scarf goes on every trip. Actually, so does this baseball hat 🙂 Wear your sneakers so you don’t have to pack them! Click here to see the Reels videos I made 5 min before leaving for the airport!

Shopping in SoHo

all the cool places

Utility jacket | denim | Dior bag | Dior sandals | ATM tee | Cotton bracelets | Sunglasses

SoHo is a shopping mecca … you can find anything you’re looking for, and it’s my favorite neighborhood in the city. The stores I love for shopping in SoHo include InterMix, Veronica Beard, Reiss, Banana Republic (best one I’ve seen), Everlane, Moncler and Anine Bing (bought this Paris tee and it’s on serious repeat). Also great for street style inspo … and brunch!

PUBLIC rooftop bar

best views in NYC

AllSaints leather jacket | Leopard cami | Sandals | YSL puffer bag | Bracelet | Sunglasses | Denim

What to wear to one of New York’s biggest scenes? I had to make a style board to figure it out 🙂 We actually went up for drinks three times — the views are that spectacular. Watching the city lights shine as the sun went down reminded me of why I love New York. Added bonus: Happy Hour is complimentary for hotel guests.

Brunch in Brooklyn

best meal of the trip

Puffer vest | Denim | YSL puffer bag | Sneakers | Hoodie | Necklace | Earrings | Perfume

We ate a lot of great food in New York, but this place stands out: 12 Chairs Cafe in Williamsburg. Great vibe, delicious Israeli/Middle Eastern food (they fly the pita in from Israel) and an incredible playlist (I kept trying to Shazam the songs but they were all Israeli lol). The best part? It was a gorgeous day, and we walked past several bustling cafes thinking we would never find a table, and even though they were jammed, they fit us in! My brunch outfit (above) was perfect for a cool, crisp fall day.

Photo shoot day

fun photo shoot with a street style photographer!

Veronica Beard blazer | Vince slipdress | Mansur Gavriel bag | Schutz sandals | Paris candle | Ring | Sunglasses

It was really exciting to work with a New York street style photographer! He was super nice, knew all the cool spots, and the photos from the shoot are absolute favorites. During location changes, he told us a couple of behind-the-scenes stories from NY Fashion Week … veeery interesting 😉

A couple of great places to eat in SoHo

Shuka, NYC

Maman SoHo is the perfect place to start a day of hardcore trend shopping! The best coffee, the best breakfast sandwich EVER, and the best cookies (they’re famous for their nutty chocolate chip). Cute country french décor, outdoor seating in front, and a secret patio area in the back with white brick walls and hanging plants. Adorable.

Shuka was the ideal restaurant for our first dinner — we got there a little early, but by 8 pm every table was full and lively. We had a really engaging, funny server, super tasty cocktails, and delicious modern Mediterranean cuisine. And, not ridiculously expensive. Highly recommend!

Possibly the coolest outfit I spotted in NYC!
