The coat edit: Every style you need this fall!
When I was fresh out of college AGES ago (wink), I landed my first job as a coat buyer for Nordstrom. Two days later, I was off to New York City to preview coats for the Fall season. It was a very exciting time; I got to experience New York in the 90’s, and I loved every minute of it. That was the start of a lifelong love affair with the best coats and jackets … and I still love them to this day.
This is one of the MOST IMPORTANT pieces to have in our wardrobes. I always tell my friends and clients: you can never have too many! From lighter weight wool jackets to classics (like the trench I’m wearing above) to heavier weight coats, there are many options — both affordable and splurge. Keep in mind, when you’re out and about town running errands, picking up kids, attending sporting events, going out to dinner – everyone sees you in your jacket, so sometimes whatever’s underneath doesn’t really matter! Always make your coats and jackets stylish and practical, and don’t be afraid to purchase several. Trust me, you’ll wear them all!

Perfect puffer vests
Talk about the perfect jacket for when you’re in-between seasons! Layer a hoodie under for extra warmth, or even try a warmer coat over it. Either way, you can’t go wrong with a puffer vest. I love love love this Moncler (an affordable option is here.) I also really like this vegan leather one.

Vegan leather coats and jackets
Vegan leather/faux leather coats and vests are EVERYWHERE this season. Super cool, and an easy way to update your coat collection. The prices are reasonable, and the color assortment – black, tan and cream – are always elevated. Saks has a great selection here, and also check out this vest, this puffer jacket and this one too.

Double faced wool — so luxurious
Double faced wool jackets and coats are one of those luxurious details that’s typically used in higher end brands like Max Mara and other famous designers. But right now, there are many options and they look really expensive! This is a topic I’ve been wanting to talk about here for quite some time, and I pay extra attention when I find a good piece. Yesterday, while shopping in NYC, I spotted this gorgeous coat in the Reiss store (and it’s also available in petite sizes!) — it’s a good one. This Theory jacket is amazing, and it’s really versatile. I’m wearing it in this photo. I also love this Max Mara wrap coat, and this style by Polo Ralph Lauren. All very very high quality.

Puffers in bright colors
Puffer coats are practical, super cozy and super stylish too! Go for a bright color this season; there are good ones at many different price ranges, from Moncler to Bernardo. You just can’t go wrong by adding a cool style to your wardrobe. Zara has some great options too!

Trench coats — oversized is in!
Trench coats are staples that should be in every stylish wardrobe … but they don’t need to be boring! Of course, a basic one is always good, like these from Burberry. This one by Mango is oversized, which is the of-the-moment way to wear a trench, and I also like this one from Banana Republic. I particularly love them over dresses, and of course with denim and a cool loafer or sneakers.

Lighter weight wool/sweater jackets
J.Crew makes the best cardigan jackets, and I’ve written about them many times. The Ella (below) is the heaviest weight of them all it’s really warm, and so versatile. The Eloise style is the newest and is also a favorite, and the Juliette is a still best seller. All good, and the color selection is amazing. I highly recommend them!

Shackets
Shackets (or shirt jackets) are trending again this year, and they’re SO easy to wear! The options are endless at ALL price points. The BB Dakota style is a best-seller, and the plaid one below is my own recent purchase and I LOVE it. Check out this one and this one too!
