The 6 best ways to wear denim this fall!

Your new season must-haves

With a new season officially here, it’s important to stay ahead of the style curve and make sure the most important category in our closets is updated! Denim is the starting point of every outfit, and I can tell you this from experience: if the fit is off, your outfits won’t come together. This is where it’s worth it to spend a little extra, especially since many of us wear denim regularly throughout the week. So … the question is which denim should you add for the new season? Keep reading to see the 6 best ways to wear denim this fall, and 4 styles that will be at the center of every cute outfit!

Once you’ve selected the denim (believe it or not, it’s fairly easy), then it’s time to put together the rest of the outfit. I find that adding a piece or two each season is what freshens up our wardrobes. Think stylish sweaters, shackets, and camel coats which adds a sophisticated element to anything you wear. I hope you find a few things that inspire you!

Denim styles that make the best fall outfits!

Coated, distressed, flared and straight leg styles … all cool and on trend

Coated denim is a perfect style to add. It gives you a leather look for a fraction of the price. This pair by Frame is my recent purchase — you’ll love them!

Distressed denim adds a little edge. I prefer a lighter distressing and just purchased this best-selling style, also by Frame.

Flared jeans are everywhere right now, and a favorite style is by Mother. Look at this one, and this one. I also love this brand new pair by Fidelity.

Slim, straight leg jeans are my preferred style (instead of skinnies). Try the AG Mari, the Frame Le Sylvie Slender, Paige Cindy and the Mother Tomcat. All great!

#1 Wear denim with: Shackets

Shirt jacket | Levi’s | Anine Bing tee

Shackets, or shirt jackets, are super easy to wear, very comfy and cool girl stylish. This year there are even more options! I love this quilted style by J.Crew, this simple cream one, and this BB Dakota plaid (all recent purchases). Trust me, you’ll wear them ALL the time!

#2 Wear denim with: Cool Clogs

This is THE fall shoe, and I think it’s a great update to all our denim! I just ordered these which should be coming any day. I also love this style from Tory Burch, of course this Gucci pair, and classic styles like this (my recent purchase). Not only are they comfy, but they add extra height for those of us who need it!

#3 Wear denim with: Stylish sweaters

Frame sweater | Mother denim | Schutz boots | Pendant necklace

Right now sweaters are arriving daily – and adding lightweight styles like this cashmere tee and this Vince v-neck work perfectly for transitional weather. I also love a shorter cropped cardigan worn as a top – so cool and stylish! Below are several that have caught my eye. I kind of could go on and on, but these are what I narrowed it down to!

#4 Wear denim with: Camel coats

I think this is the single most important piece to add right now! A camel coat makes every outfit look expensive, plus you’ll have it for years to come! Currently I’m eyeing this one by Harris Wharf, this Anine Bing style and this one too. Trust me on this one, if you see one you love, grab it, you won’t be sorry 🙂

#5 Wear denim with: Pretty blouses

Frame blouse | Mother denim | Cinq a Sept blazer | Sandals | Gucci bag

Since we’re all starting to go out a little more, it’s important to have a couple of blouses that always work! I love the Frame style I’m wearing above. The sleeve has a pretty puff sleeve detail, and it’s available in black and ivory and blush – here. This Reformation style is a favorite, and will definitely sell out (make sure to size up). Lastly, having a black blouse (or two) will make you ready for anything — I’m not joking. I love this one by Vince!

Paige blouses – I love, available at Nordstrom too

#6 Wear denim with: Loafers

Loafers, along with clogs, are also THE shoe to add! I’ve been doing lots of loafer research (for selfish reasons too!) and here is what I’ve come up with: Of course there are the classic Gucci loafers and mules, here and here. There’s also this one with a small heel you should strongly consider. Since the trend is EVERYWHERE, there are really good choices at all price points!

  1. I like the white ankle boots. When I clicked on the link it took me to the bag. Could you please send me the correct link?
    Thanks!

  2. Susie, I am barely 5’2”. Can a flare ankle length jean be worn as a full length on a petite person? These are Paige Claudine denim. They reach the top of my foot. Or is it better to get a flare that is meant to be full length and have them hemmed?
I have purchased straight leg denim and had them hemmed just above the ankle. I have ALWAYS worn my denim with slight “crease” in the front as the length. Very new news to me to “show my ankle”! I am 68 yrs old and falling your style boards as inspiration.
    Thank you
