10 spring favorites you’ll love: I’ve tested them all!

Today I’m sharing 10 spring favorites you’ll love — I’ve tested them all! It’s so exciting that spring is finally here and that brighter days are ahead. There are many brand new items rolling in every single day, and when I make a great find I promise I’ll write about it here, so you’ll be in the know 😉 Also, because we’ve gotten many many new subscribers lately, I thought I’d make a proper introduction!

I’m Susie, and I’ve been a retail girl since high school, working at Nordstrom in various roles including a decade-long stint as a buyer and another decade as a personal stylist. I have the same questions as all of you: does my bra fit properly, should I be using Vitamin C serum, am I too old to wear that, how can I not look tired, can I wear ripped jeans … the list goes ON AND ON! In my opinion, it’s my duty to share my experiences with you, as well as those of thousands of women I’ve had intimate conversations with in the dressing room over the years.

I have a passion for the business of fashion, and for helping women get dressed every day. And, I’ve had many interesting meetings with the creators and founders of worldwide brands who have given me an inside perspective that I LOVE sharing with you through this blog.

When I started my website, it was initially to show some street style inspiration so we could all get ideas on how to style cool pieces. But, it has evolved into much more than that. Now it’s a place where I share the latest trends, the most stylish looks, and too-good-to-miss items that are bound to sell out. Thank you so much for following along, I’m really glad you’re here! 💕🌸

#1 Denim jackets

Levi’s Ex-Boyfriend Trucker jacket

Denim jackets are a staple in everyone’s closets, especially when the weather gets a little nicer. It’s the first jacket I turn to on cooler nights when I need an extra layer. The Levi’s one above is slightly oversized, but not too much — just enough to be flattering. If you’d like a medium wash, the Madewell one is also one I’ve worn on repeat and is a best seller. It runs a little small, so size up. For reference, I’m wearing an xs in the Levi’s and a small in the Madewell.

#2 Charlotte Tilbury everything!

Typically I recommend buying the best products from many different cosmetic lines. In other words, try to avoid stopping by a particular counter and ending up with everything from that one brand! And I still believe that; however, there are A LOT of favorites at Charlotte Tilbury. For starters, there’s Pillowtalk blush, a pretty, peachy neutral that looks nice on most skin tones. The Airbrush Flawless Finish powder (color medium) is like an IG filter, and the Magic-Away concealer (color 3) is creamy and gives just the right amount of coverage. I recently purchased the summery-coral lipstick Sexy Sienna, and Kidman’s Kiss is my go-to. I also love Pillowtalk, and the matching gloss. Try this brand if you haven’t already; you’ll become a fan, I promise!

#3 Anine Bing tees

Anine Bing tee | White denim | Schutz sandal

I know these Anine Bing tees (here, here and here) are a little spendier than others, but the quality is really good, and these are so cool that it’s better to have one rather than a bunch. They run a little roomy (I’m wearing an xs) and this best seller is finally back in stock! I also have this one that I wear ALL THE TIME, and I’m thinking this one might be next …. my Nordstrom friend Danielle was wearing it when I went to visit her, and I can tell it will go with everything!

#4 Mother denim

J.Crew cardigan | Mother denim | Prada pumps | ATM tee

At this point, you might be wondering whether I get paid by Mother to promote their things? 😉 The answer is no — in fact, I’ve purchased every single pair myself! I just happen to have a handful that I wear all the time. For the record, I also love Paige, Frame, Madewell and Levi’s!

Recommended Mother styles include the Rascal, the Tomcat, the Hustler (I just purchased these) and the Insider. You really can’t go wrong with any of them! I’m typically a size 27, and the wash I’m wearing above is called The Confession, available here!

#5 J.Crew swim

J.Crew one-shoulder swimsuit | Earrings | Halogen hat | Anthropologie shirt | Balenciaga bag | Zara sandals

Recently I took a little trip to Palm Springs, and boy did the sun feel nice. It was relaxing and truthfully I pretty much sat in this lounge chair most of the time! I tested out three one-piece swimsuits, all from J.Crew – and loved them all! This one shoulder is so elegant and all of the colors are gorgeous. I wore this white coverup – also available in several colors, and it’s easy and the perfect amount of coverage! I just love the J.Crew swim shop, they always have a great selection. the coverups are great too, I own this one as well and love!

#6 Bras & Panties

Now that spring has arrived, having a bra with a convertible strap is SO important! I’ve been wearing the Wacoal Halo Lace Underwire Convertible nonstop, and it’s the perfect spring and summer bra. There’s a J hook that converts this bra to a racerback, or you can cross the straps. This bra is versatile and works with all your summer tops! I also love the new Softly Styled bra with its pretty lace, and this one for an extra lift! As for panties, when I’m not wearing my favorite Natori Bliss thong, I wear these comfy (but not overly attractive) Chantelle panties under all my summer dresses. They are worth a try, I promise!

#7 Square toe sandals

J.Crew shirt dress | March Fisher sandals | Balenciaga bag

This is pretty much the sandal to own this season. There are so many great options, including this Marc Fisher one that comes in two heel heights (here and here). I also tried this new wedge! Find one or two you love and wear them all spring and summer!

#8 J.Crew cardigans/blazers

J.Crew Juliette cardigan | Dior sandals | Mother denim | Michael Stars tank | Balenciaga tote

I’m really sorry I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but these cardigans are SO GOOD, and now there’s a new one called Camille! Here’s the quick run down. (I wrote about them recently here)!

Juliette – Nice lighter weight, and runs really big. Like one or two sizes big. I’m wearing an xxs

Sophie – A tiny bit heavier in weight, and not as oversized. I’m wearing a size xs

Ella – A little heavier in weight, even compared to the Sophie. It runs really big, and I still had to take the xxs I’m wearing in on the sides.

Camille – A brand new sweater blazer. It’s a lighter weight, similar to the Juliette. It runs true to size, I’m wearing an xs in yesterday’s Reels video.

#9 Padded t-shirts

Allsaints padded tee | Mother denim | Similar sandals | Zara bag – last year

Another trend in tees, the padded tee is a good style to add to your wardrobes. The Allsaints one has been so popular, they added several new colors. I tried this one by Frame and I love it. I also noticed this cool padded shirt and thought you might like it.

#10 Fun hats

Hats are a really fun accessory to wear in the summer, and besides providing sun protection, they hide a bad hair day! This J.Crew one was folded and tossed everywhere, without a care, and it held up after being a squished in a suitcase for hours. I also like all Brixton hats and Halogen hats — they’re good quality and reasonably priced. For splurge hats and proper SPF protection, try these by Eric Javits or Helen Kaminski.

Thank you for reading! xx

  1. Hi Susie – must write to say thank you for being so real! I appreciate that you’re not 5’9” and 120 pounds. Those statistics are not real for the majority of us (who are a true demographic). Especially true for those of us over 50 when a few extra pounds happen (no matter what). Please do not take offense as this is a supreme compliment and you resonate with those of us who stay reasonably fit, live a life and still want to look cute! You do a great job with ‘picks’ and suggestions for our age group. (And younger too).

  2. Thank you Susie! Such good tips and advice as always. I just have to say I love your new Ella in the soft pink. I wasn’t sure it would work on a petite frame but clearly it does!!

  3. So many great suggestions here! I have been wanting to try the Michael Stars tank. I don’t normally wear tanks but the cut of that one intrigues me. I am a huge Michael Stars fan. By the way, thank you for introducing me to Dr. Laura…love her!!

  4. I just found you. LOVE the blog and all things Susie. I was in retail too from age 16 and was a sportswear buyer for a local chain until I left to have babies. AND I am 62 and have all the style questions you do. Love from Virginia! ❤️
