What to pack for a sunny vacay!

I just took my first mini vacation in over a year — what a treat! A weekend trip to Palm Springs (and seeing the sunshine) was exactly what I needed. Just a short 2.5 hour direct flight from Portland, it was SO easy … and a good way to get back into traveling. We stayed at the Holiday House, which was stylishly decorated by Mark D. Sikes, a popular LA designer with two gorgeous design books, Beautiful and More Beautiful. I loved this hotel so much that I’m going to write a post telling you all about it!

Of course, I overpacked (ha!) but I thought I’d share the things I actually wore. It was warm during the day and cooler at night, so it was the perfect opportunity to bring both bathing suits and coverups AND my favorite cardigans and white jeans for the evenings. Keep reading to get a little swim inspo, some packing ideas and fun spring pieces you’ll want to add to your shopping lists. It’s getting to be that time!

P.S. In case you missed it, check out this recent post “Vacation Packing List: The 6 Pieces You Need!”

Getting there

Supergoop! | Travel organizer | Valentino sandals | Halogen hat | Amorepacific

For the past couple of years when traveling (no matter where), you’ll always see me in my Vuori joggers, a denim jacket, black scarf and sneakers. I usually pack sandals in my bag for a quick switch after landing, as well as a tank top and a cashmere sweater (I’m cold no matter where I go)!

Travel essentials

Packing cubes are life changing, and if you haven’t tried them yet, then I highly suggest you RUN and grab a set. When you see how helpful they are, you’ll want them for every member of your family 🙂 Not only do they keep your suitcase tidy, but they help you organize, plus you’ll be able to get more in your suitcase than you think you can! I have the ones by CALPAK and I bought these for my family. I also picked up this makeup organizer from Amazon, and it has been my go-to on every single trip. You can’t beat the price for $23.00!

Swimsuits and Coverups

This year I opted for one-piece swimsuits — thankfully they’re super stylish and elegant at the moment. Plus, I just felt a little more comfortable in a one-piece given that my legs haven’t seen the sun in over a year! J.Crew has the best swimwear, and I’ve had my eye on this one shoulder suit for months. This linen over-shirt will go with every one of your swimsuits, and it has the perfect amount of coverage. I also bought this leopard print top that actually looks even better over a black swimsuit!

Outfits

Juliette cardigan | White denim | Dior sandals | ATM tee

Besides dresses and swim attire, I also packed white denim and the J.Crew Juliette cardigan which we all love. I ended up wearing them on repeat in the evenings!

Dresses

Anthropologie dress | Sandals | Bag | Cardigan over shoulders

Dresses are the easiest! This one is so comfy, and perfect for a casual dinner. Check out this ATM inspired t-shirt dress, and this one too — you’ll want to throw them in your suitcase for all occasions.

Accessories

Balenciaga bag | Zara sandals | Halogen hat

Always the finishing touches! Sunglasses and a hat work magic while on vacation. Oh, and a little lipstick too!
