7 minute beauty routine — it’s easy, I promise!

We all love makeup, and there’s nothing like a new lipstick or blush to give us all a little refresh! Let’s be clear, I’m no makeup artist — but I have done my own makeup every day since high school. And, since I’ve basically spent my whole life at Nordstrom, I’ve tried a lot of beauty products! (It also helps to have trusted friends in the beauty department.) Lately, I’ve been sharing some faves on Instagram, and many of you have messaged me asking for more details. Thank you … I love hearing from you!

Today’s post is about an easy 7 minute beauty routine (I timed it the other day out of curiosity). It’s super simple, and what I’ll most likely have on my face if we ever run into each other at the grocery store 😉 Apply primer, foundation, concealer, blush … then do your eyes and lips and you’ll be ready to go! I’m also sharing a few skin care favorites. Side note: I just finished a year-long partnership with Ulta Beauty. Not only were they wonderful to work with, but I love them even more after learning firsthand about their commitment to several important issues, including diversity, clean beauty and sustainable processes. I’m still in the process of trying products, and rest assured I only share things I truly love and have used myself. It’s my “authenticity promise” to all of you!

P.S. I’ve been working really hard to update my Pinterest boards, and I’d love to know what you think. And, if you’re new around here and want to stay up to date on all things stylish and the hot new items we ALL need, then subscribe here and never miss a post! Makeup prep

Primer – Using a primer under your foundation is a key factor in helping the foundation blend easily into your skin. I’ve been using the First Aid Beauty Coconut primer, which is also moisturizing and smells amazing. It’s about empty, and I will be purchasing it again — always a good sign! Prior to this one, I used every last bit of Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream – love that one too.

Foundation – Giorgio Armani Foundation is the only one I wear, and I’ve gone through dozens of bottles! (For reference, I’m color 5.5.) My Nordstrom beauty stylist friend was horrified I was blending it with my fingers, so I took her advice and bought a Dior foundation brush (but honestly I don’t love it, so I’m not sharing it here).

Eye primer – I have used Laura Mercier eye primer in flax for years. While it might not be completely necessary, I like the base it provides for any eye shadow. And it’s super quick … I use my finger!

Concealer – I’ve been switching back and forth on under eye concealers. The one I recommend (and love) is Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away. It’s light coverage, and doesn’t settle into creases (I’m color 3 for reference). Ulta kindly gifted me Tarte Shape Tape, and Emily immediately tried to steal it, telling me it’s all over Instagram! It provides more coverage than Charlotte, but I do love to use it when I’m taking photos. It’s a bit on the dry side, so make sure you’re moisturized — try this Perricone eye cream. This brush is key for applying concealer, and it helps to tap it in, making sure there’s no settling.

Makeup

Eyeshadow – I use Laura Mercier Rosegold eye caviar stick. It’s super easy to apply, and it’s slightly shimmery which brightens the eye (yes we can wear shimmer or a little sparkle over 40)! For something a little different, the Chanel eye palettes are also very easy, and they’re all in one. You’ll love the color Spices! Trish McEvoy eye shadow sticks are really similar to Laura’s, and I use Smokey Quartz to softly line the eyes on both lower and upper lashes. While they’re currently sold out, I confirmed with Trish McEvoy, and they are re-formulating and re-launching in April. I had to share this since I still have one and use it every single day!

Eye liner – Tightlining your eye with Chanel liner (in black) makes a big difference — see a tutorial here. It’s waterproof, so it stays in place!

Mascara – Chanel Le Volume mascara is another one I’ve used for years with no plans to switch. I have tried many different ones, even recently, but none compare to the Chanel one.

Blush – Chanel blush is a favorite, and it smells really good. I have several, but a good everyday pinky one is called Rose Initial, and it’s perfect with Charlotte Tilbury lipstick. I also love Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk blush. Try this Trish McEvoy brush – it’s a fave.

Lipstick – I still wear lipstick even though half of it is in my mask — it makes me feel better, even just around the house! There are many color combos I love, including Charlotte Tilbury Kidman’s Kiss with Bobbi Brown Rose liner and Chanel gloss.

Powder – The finishing touch is Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Finish Powder. It’s like Instagram for your face! While I haven’t used it much while staying home, it’s a must-have when wanting to look a little pretty and “complete.”

Skincare favorites: morning

Cleanser – I wash my face in the shower, and have been using Tula and love it! A few times a week, I use this Dermalogica powder scrub that turns into a paste with a little water. Skin feels super clean after you rinse it off.

Eye makeup remover – The Clarins eye makeup remover is so good, I never like to run low! I usually have a little eye makeup left over from the day before, and this easily removes everything.

Moisturizer – The Elemis Marine Cream Pro-Collagen smells amazing and is super moisturizing. Plus it has an SPF 30, eliminating a sunscreen step. Love this one too – Emily and Jake use it daily!

Eye cream – The Perricone Cold Plasma eye cream is another every-day favorite. It works nicely under concealer, making sure nothing settles in our fine lines.

Deodorant – I’ve been using this all-natural deodorant, thanks to my friend who called me when she discovered it and raved about how good it is. And I agree!

PerfumeLe Labo is an all-time favorite fragrance, and Santal 33 is my go-to. Try layering it with the lotion, and be prepared for lots of compliments!

Skincare favorites: evening

Serum – This Clé de Peau serum was a huge splurge, but it lasted an entire year. It made my skin soft and young-looking, and I’m saving my money to replenish it — that’s how much I love it!

Vitamin CSkinCeuticals C E Ferulic is a well-known favorite, and the Vitamin C Concentrate has the correct percentage. Dr. Lauren, my dermatologist friend, approves. It is so good, and I have another one on the way since I’ve used every last drop. Always a good sign 🙂

Cleansing balm – The Colleen Rothschild Cleansing Balm is like a mini spa in a jar! Rinsing it off with the accompanying muslin face cloth is the luxurious finishing touch. Another CR favorite is the hair mask (currently sold out but will be restocked soon). Our whole family loves this product, it makes your hair so soft. Plus, it smells amazing!

Eye serum – The Colleen Rothschild eye serum is my go-to in the evening. It’s a retinol blend, but it’s moisturizing.
