The style trick that works every time: mirror selfies!
I know it sounds a little silly, but taking mirror selfies really does work! There’s something about looking at yourself in a mirror vs looking at a photo that helps you see more clearly whether your outfit really works. And just to be clear, until I started this little Instagram and blog journey, I NEVER dreamed I would be taking photos of MYSELF!! ALL THE TIME 😂
They are not perfectly edited, not perfectly posed or put together, but definitely real life. A little messy and a little imperfect. My favorite spot to take selfies at home is in my bedroom because the lighting is always good. I do try and take the photos when I’m showered and have makeup on because I feel better that way, which always helps the clothes look better too. After a selfie I often see combinations that don’t work, and some things get returned after reviewing the photos. Try it – don’t worry, no one will see you 😉 Let me know what you think!
#1 BlankNYC blazer + Mansur Gavriel bag
Talk about 3 of my favorite pieces! The faux leather blazer has been worth every penny, the white cotton shirt is oversized and versatile, and this pretty pouch by Mansur Gavriel works surprisingly well with everything!
#2 Puff tee
A stylish twist on a tee, and looks great simply tucked into denim. Easy!
#3 Topshop coat + Veronica Beard turtleneck
In the dressing room, I wasn’t sure about the turtleneck and wondered if the sleeves were too puffy. But after seeing it in a mirror selfie, I decided I liked it! As you can see, I was playing around with different bootie options 😉 The Topshop coat has been a favorite, and the price is so worth it!
#4 Gucci scarf
I spent a long time deciding which color to get for this scarf. Since it was a splurge, I wanted to make sure to get the most versatile one. I’ve worn it with many different outfits, and have found the gray to be a great choice. Plus, it will work nicely as we head towards spring! I’ll pair it with a white tee, white jeans and a denim jacket when the weather gets a little nicer.
#5 Faux leather puffer
I really couldn’t decide if this puffer added an extra 20 lbs to my 5’1 frame (!) but after getting the family vote and confirming it with a selfie, I decided to keep it. So glad I did! Talk about an easy and warm way to up your puffer game. I like this one, this one or this one. You’ll wear this more than you think — trust me.
#6 Vince blouse
You really can’t go wrong with a pretty silk blouse, and this Vince is my current favorite. I also have this style in black and it’s a favorite one too! It literally looks great with everything! Sophisticated, stylish, elevated. Who doesn’t want that?
#7 J.Crew sweater dress + Knee boots
Sweater dresses are the perfect option for our more casual, not-doing-very-much lives. They are super versatile, and work with both boots and sneakers. This J.Crew one comes in the prettiest brown, and of course black. Don’t be afraid of sweater dresses … they’re actually quite slimming!
#8 Anine Bing tee and Vuori jogger
Graphic tees seriously work with everything and I’m very fond of the ones by Anine Bing. I also like this brand and this brand. Not much more to say about Vuori (since I already talk about it non-stop) except it’s pretty much the best jogger out there, imo!
#9 J.Crew coat and hoodie
One can never have too many jackets, and you can wear this one by J.Crew for many months of the year because it’s not too heavy. It also comes in other great colors, check it out here!
