7 easy outfit formulas to wear now

(As featured in Who What Wear)

As many of you know, I’ve collaborated with Who What Wear on a handful of articles and it has truly been a career highlight! It all began the second week of quarantine, when an email appeared in my inbox from Kat Collings, their super stylish Editor-in-Chief. Since then, I’ve been working with Senior Editor Bobby Schuessler (he’s the NICEST person ever) to provide WWW subscribers with outfit recommendations and styling tips we think you’ll love! You can read a couple of the articles here and here.

This post is about 7 easy outfit formulas to wear now, and is based on the recent WWW article from August 3rd. The photos and outfit combinations shown below are all the same, but I’ve updated the items with brand new picks … since it’s fashion, things change daily 🙂 I hope you find a little inspiration!

We have many new friends around here, and I just wanted to say a huge thank-you for following along. For those of you who make purchases, it means the world to me! Since I make a small commission when you click and purchase from the links, it helps keep this little business running. My greatest passion is connecting with all of you and producing content you find interesting and fresh — every single week! xx

#1. White shirt + Blazer + Skinny jeans + Slingbacks

Blank NYC blazer | Frank & Eileen shirt | Paige Hoxton denim | Aquazzurra shoe | Mansur Gavriel bag – here in other colors | Sunglasses

“This is probably the most-worn combo in my closet. I love it because it’s polished and stylish and especially good for client meetings (even if over Zoom).” — Wright

You can never go wrong investing in a blazer since you’ll wear it on repeat and for most seasons. The Scuba Jacket by Veronica Beard is a great buy, and the wearing options are endless! I also love the Rag & Bone Slade Blazer; it actually feels more like a sweater and is incredibly stylish. Check out these amazing white shirts from Grayson, Rails and Frank & Eileen, and don’t forget these go-to skinnies by Mother, Paige and Frame.

#2. T-shirt dress + Tote + Sneakers

Z Supply dress | Topshop tote, similar | Veja V-10 sneakers | Denim jacket | Poppy Finch necklace | Gucci sunglasses

“This combo is super comfy, and of course, these Veja sneakers are perfect with most anything. Z Supply makes the best dresses!” — Wright

T-shirt dresses are so easy and comfy, and can easily take you right into the fall season. Combine with a cute tote and stylish sneakers and you’re good to go. I’ve been loving everything from Z Supply — the prices are very reasonable, and the quality is amazing!

#3. Denim Jacket + Tee + Joggers + Flip Flops

Denim jacket | Tank | Vuori jogger | Givenchy bag | Flip flops

“So comfy and perfect for summer. I’ve been wearing joggers with flip-flops on hotter days, and it doesn’t look like I just came from the gym!” — Wright

I’m probably starting to sound like a broken record, but the Vuori Jogger is the only one to buy … at least it is in my humble opinion! I’m always on the lookout for a great denim jacket, and this one by Levi’s has been a summer staple. You will easily wear this jacket into fall, so it’s not too late to grab one!

#4. Shirtdress + Crossbody bag + Heels

SNAKE PRINT SHIRT DRESS | YSL BAG | ZARA SANDALS, SIMILAR | SUNGLASSES | POPPY FINCH NECKLACE | MICHELE WATCH

“This shirt style dress always gets compliments! And the white bag is a nice touch. Plus, it goes with literally everything.” — Wright

Shirt dresses are so versatile — just switch up your shoes to completely change the look. For fall, I might add a bootie and/or a cardigan for extra warmth.

#5. Sweater jacket + Tank + Flares + Mules

J.Crew sweater jacket | Mother denim | Black sandals | Tank | Bag | Sunglasses

“I always feel taller when wearing flares, especially with mules. This sweater jacket is a staple and works any time of year.” — Wright

Lately I’m seeing flare jeans everywhere! The Mother “Weekender” fits everyone really well, and there’s also this new style and this one too. Try a pair — they’re super flattering and you’ll instantly look taller! The J.Crew cardigan is a good staple, and you’ll love all the colors that are available. Pick up a neutral, and add a fun color too!

#6. Black dress + Straw bag + Sandals

Black dress | Straw bag, similar | Sandals | Brinker & Eliza bracelet

“A simple black dress always works as the foundation for an easy outfit. I recommend this one, with sandals and a straw bag. It’s casual, but you’ll feel put-together!” — Wright

Find an easy, casual black dress, and you’ll have a go-to outfit any time of year. Pick from any shoe option, from a sneaker to a bootie to a summer sandal, and you’ll be ready for any occasion!

#7. Tie-front shirt + Printed skirt + Sandals

MADEWELL TIE-FRONT SHIRT | SKIRT | SANDAL | BAG | SUNGLASSES | NECKLACE | EARRINGS

“Lately I’ve been wearing printed summer skirts, and they work with any shoes, from sandals to sneakers. And they’re a nice departure from denim from time to time.” — Wright

This time of year, all purchases (in my book) need to go forward into fall. Adding a printed skirt to your wardrobe is a great choice because it works now with sandals, and later with a sweater and boots!
