5 summer outfit ideas!

Yesterday, my Nordstrom Stylist friends and I shared our summer outfit ideas for the July 4th weekend on Instagram. I just love blue and white, and adding a touch of red instantly makes everything feel festive! But since time is flying by these days, I wanted to make sure everything I recommend works nicely from now until the last day of summer. This reminds me: the summer season is short, so make sure every purchase counts. Either you love it so much that you’ll wear it again next year, OR it works nicely all year long — like a great striped t-shirt. Keep reading for 5 fun outfit ideas for the rest of summer!

P.S. I’ve been working really hard on updating my Pinterest boards, and I’d love to know what you think. And, if you’re new around here and want to stay up to date on all things stylish and the hot new items we ALL need, then subscribe here and never miss a post! #1 Strapless dresses and slide sandals

Left: Strapless dress | Gucci sunglasses | Poppy Finch necklace | Right: Chelsea 28 coverup | Brixton hat

Strapless dresses are an easy option for vacations as well as for lounging around the house. The key is to make sure you own a good strapless bra! This Wacoal wire-free comfort bra is arriving any day, and since I’ve been watching Mirayah (the lead designer for Wacoal) talk about how good it is … well, I knew I must try it! The Chelsea 28 dress I’m wearing is actually a coverup, and it’s been restocked in black. For an all-white dress, look at this one by Free People.

#2 Stripes, Stripes, Stripes

J.Crew stripe dress | Vince shoes | Sunglasses | Poppy Finch necklace

Stripes are “French Girl chic” any time of year! For right now, look at this Z Supply dress, this one by Sundry and this Vince one too. The classic stripe top from J.Crew is one of the best, and check out this bag and this top!  The choices are endless — maybe someday I’ll devote an entire post to stripes!

#3 all-white & a jacket

Rag & Bone blazer, wearing size 4 | J.Crew tee, older but I love this one | Levi’s 724 jeans, wearing 26 | Gold sandals | Roxanne Assoulin bracelets and these | Sunglasses

Having a go-to combo of a nice white tee and jean is a great starting point to so many outfits! Add a jacket like the one I’m wearing above (this one feels like a sweater), or any denim jacket like this current fave, or an army green like this Madewell I’m eyeing. Trust me, you’ll have outfits for days!

#4 Graphic tee and faded jeans

Chaser graphic tee | Paige denim | Marc Fisher gold sandals | J.Crew cardigan | Gucci sunnies | bracelets

This combo is basically my uniform on most days, especially since recently our Portland weather hasn’t been very summery 🙁 These jeans are a deal at half off, and they’re brand new! The back of the hem is “chewed,” a clever term for distressed. Other faded jeans to consider are these by Paige or these by Frame. Graphic tees are personal favorites, I wrote about them here and here. There are also new ones by Chaser, and check out a great selection here and here!

#5 Denim skirts and tops

Left: Chaser tee | J.Crew skirt, old | Mansur Gavriel bag | Gucci sunnies | Cork sandals | Right: Frank & Eileen shirt | J.Crew denim skirt | Marc Fisher sandals | Shell bracelet, similar

Denim skirts are definitely a summer staple, and every year they’re slightly updated. The button front skirt I’m wearing above is from last year, and if I was looking for something new, I’d choose a no-button style like this style or this one. The skirt I’m wearing on the right is this year’s version from J.Crew, and is ivory with navy top stitching.  Add a tee or any shirt from Grayson, Frank & Eileen or Madewell, and you’ll have an easy, comfy summer outfit!
