10 summer favorites you’ll love: I’ve tested them all!

But first … this past week the #Nordstrom6 shared a little bit about themselves. My day was Thursday, and since planning ahead doesn’t come naturally, I found myself scrambling due to life’s responsibilities. The idea was to do a playful wink to Vogue’s 73 Qs, which are so clever (Margot Robbie in her darling house is worth checking out). Since my version needs a bit of work — after all, I don’t have a Vogue video team on standby 😉 — I removed it in hopes that I can make it better at a later date.

Sooo … because we have gotten many many new subscribers here, I thought I’d do a proper introduction!

I’m Susie, and I’ve been a retail girl since high school, working at Nordstrom in various roles including a decade-long stint as a buyer and another decade as a personal stylist. I have the same woes as everyone: does my bra fit properly, should I be using Vitamin C serum, am I too old to wear that, how can I not look tired, can I wear ripped jeans … the list goes ON AND ON! It’s my duty to share my experiences with you, as well as those of thousands of women I’ve had intimate conversations with in the dressing room over the years.

I have a passion for the business of fashion, and for helping women get dressed every day. And, I’ve had many interesting meetings with the creators and founders of worldwide brands who have given me an inside perspective that I LOVE sharing with you through this blog.

When I started my website, it was initially to share street style inspiration so we could all get ideas on how to style cool pieces. But, it has evolved into much more than that. Now it’s a place where I share the latest trends, the most stylish looks, and too-good-to-miss items that are bound to sell out. Thank you so much for following along, I’m really glad you’re here! 💕🌸

#1 Levi’s Ex-Boyfriend denim jacket

sharing my summer favorites

Levi’s denim jacket | BP sunnies

Denim jackets are such an important piece and can be worn with so many different things! I really thought my collection was good … until I spotted this one: a worn-in, soft, faded denim jacket. I absolutely love it, and saw it majorly on sale here!

#2 Madewell denim

summer favorites featuring Madewell jeans

Recently, while venturing out to the newly re-opened Madewell store, I spotted the perfect light-wash pair of jeans, which happened to be crazy on sale. Sometimes a pair of classic skinny jeans is just what’s needed for breezy, summery tops. The 9″ mid-rise skinny fits most everyone and there are many washes to choose from. My other favorite is this one, also a 9″ skinny that I’ve worn on repeat. If you prefer a little higher rise, then try the 10″ which is also a best seller.

#3 AGOLDE sweatshirts

Pretty enough for a Zoom call or to socially distance-meet a girlfriend for lunch, these fashion girl favorites are stylish and comfy and cute! They come in many colors like the Limoncello one I’m wearing above, and the feminine puff sleeve detail adds a nice touch. These sell out, but I’ve had luck finding them at Nordstrom, Anthropologie and Shopbop.

#4 Brinker & Eliza

The mother/daughter duo behind this collection is creating some of the coolest jewelry right now, and it’s definitely a brand you need to know. I’m in love with the heart bracelet above, and you will get so many compliments on it! Definitely check out their website, its full of great inspo. You can also find a nice selection here.

#5 Emu slippers

I purchased these the first week of quarantine and have worn them every day since! There are many different versions but trust me, these are the ones to try. Even on warmer days, I’ve found myself wearing them to get my morning coffee or run out to the mailbox. So don’t shy away from slippers just because it’s summer! You’ll wear these all the time.

#6 Z Supply t-shirt dresses

Z Supply dress

This is a new favorite line of everyday essentials, including t-shirt dresses which I recently wrote about here and here. There are many great ones, like this stripe, this camo style and this one. They are all under $100, and the cotton is super soft. I’ve been very pleased with the quality, and I highly recommend them. Try one or two and I’m certain you’ll wear them all summer! Shop at Z Supply or Shopbop.

#7 Charlotte Tilbury everything!

Typically I recommend buying the best products from many different cosmetic lines. In other words, try to avoid stopping by a particular counter and ending up with everything from one brand. And I still believe that; however, there are A LOT of favorites at Charlotte Tilbury. For starters, there’s the Pillowtalk blush, a pretty, peachy neutral that looks nice on most skin tones. The Airbrush Flawless Finish powder is like an IG filter, and the Magic-Away concealer is creamy and gives just the right amount of coverage! I recently purchased this summery-coral lipstick Sexy Sienna, and Kidman’s Kiss is my go-to. I also love Bitch Perfect and Pillowtalk. Try the brand if you haven’t already, you’ll become a fan, I promise!

#8 J.Crew packable hat

Susie Wright Amalfi Coast

J.Crew hat

Hats are a really fun accessory to wear in the summer, and besides providing a little sun protection, they also hide a bad hair day! This J.Crew one was folded and tossed everywhere, without a care, and it held up after being a squished in a suitcase for hours. I also like all Brixton hats, they’re good quality and reasonably priced. For splurge hats and proper SPF protection, try those by Eric Javits or Helen Kaminski.

#9 Bras and panties

Now that summer has arrived, having a bra with a convertible strap is SO important! I’ve been wearing the Wacoal Halo Lace Underwire Convertible nonstop, and it’s the perfect summer bra. It doesn’t make you hot, and it’s very comfortable. There’s a J hook that converts this style to a racerback, or you can cross the straps. This bra is versatile for all your summer tops! As for panties, when I’m not wearing my favorite Natori Bliss thong, I’m wearing these comfy (but not overly attractive) Chantelle panties under all my summer dresses. These are worth a try!

#10 Rails dresses

Portland summer favorites

Rails dress | Sam Edelman slide

If you’re looking for a casual summer dress brand that can be elevated just a little, then Rails is a great option. They can be worn with sneakers or flat sandals for casual wear, or add a small heel to dress them up a bit. You’ll love this one and this one, and check out more here and here.

Thank you for reading! xx
