The style trick that works every time

The style trick that works every time: mirror selfies!

A while back, I wrote about mirror selfies and the “one simple trick to help you feel put together.” Believe it or not, it really does work! There’s something about looking at yourself in the mirror vs looking at a photo that helps you see more clearly if your outfit works. And just to be clear, up until I started this blog and the Instagram journey, I NEVER dreamed that I would be TAKING PHOTOS OF MYSELF!! Soooo … today’s post is about sharing my recent mirror selfies and some recent outfits I put together. I hope you like them!

IPHONE MIRROR SELFIES!!

Not perfectly edited, not perfectly posed or put together, but definitely real life. A little messy and a little imperfect. My favorite spot to take selfies at home is my office, because the lighting is always good.

#1 Yellow stripe blouse and Levi Icon Wedgie

J..Crew stripe blouse | Levi’s 724 Icon Wedgie | Superga sneaker | Dash & Albert rug

Since I’m headed out soon on a sunny vacation (more on that to come), I thought this bright yellow striped blouse at J.Crew would be perfect for the trip. I wasn’t quite sure if these new platform sneakers would work, but after one quick photo, I thought I looked ok 😉

#2 Ruffle sleeve knit dress

Anthropologie ruffle dress, also in blue | Valentino flip flops

This is the perfect summer dress, comfy and great for warm summer days. And of course, I’m wearing my favorite sandals that you’ve seen a million times … the Valentino flip flops! The dress is xs, and it was pretty long, so I had several inches taken off from the bottom.

#3 Stripe shirtdress & Sam Edelman sandals

Treasure & Bond shirtdress (on sale!) | Sam Edelman sandals | Belt (from another dress) | Shell earrings, gifted – Thank you Liz!

I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve worn this simple and inexpensive shirtdress. It may not be super flattering without the belt, but wow is it comfy for a casual summer day! And it’s on sale for $41!! If you want to splurge, this ATM one is a favorite. We were headed off to Ponzi Vineyards for a little wine tasting, and Emily suggested I add the belt and shell earrings given to me by my sweet friend who had read about my love of shell jewelry (read about it here).

#4 Frame silk cami and straight leg jeans

Frame Silk cami | Frame straight leg jeans, similar here | Valentino Sandals similar here | Chloe sunnies

This cami requires a strapless bra — and it can be really hard to find one that fits well. I’m wearing the Wacoal “Red Carpet” and I mostly like it, but strapless bras just aren’t that comfy. This cami by Frame is really beautiful (it comes in black as well), and the silk is weighty with a delicate frayed edge.

#5 Alex Mill cotton shirt and matching skirt

Alex Mill shirt | Alex Mill skirt | Staud bag | Valentino flip flops

Alex Mill is a brand started by a few J.Crew executives, and the simplicity of their design makes all the pieces easy to wear. I have worn this shirt with denim so many times, including at mom’s weekend with my son, so now it holds extra special meaning 🙂 It also works nicely with all the blue I have in my house!!

#6 Logo tee and a pretty short skirt!!

J..Crew tee | J.Crew skirt | Superga sneakers | Staud blue checked bag | La Loop tortoiseshell necklace

Don’t tell anyone, but last week I wore this logo tee two days in a row! I styled it differently both times, but it was perfect under the leopard blazer I wore to work, so I had to repeat it. How fun is this new bag by Staud, and this one too! And the printed cotton skirt has worked very nicely this summer, and is now on sale – get one while you can!

Thank you for reading! xo Susie
