How to look stylish in swimwear

Brixton hat | J.Crew coverup | Tory Burch flip flops | Gucci sunglasses

Our recent trip to Hawaii was the perfect excuse to try out some new swimwear and research what’s new for SS19, so I could report back to all of you!  Since the dressing room lighting seemed to highlight all my imperfections 😂 I opted to do it all at home.  Which meant ordering most of it online.  While this method required a few returns and exchanges, I found that sipping rosé and dreaming of sunny beaches in the comfort of my own home was much more palatable given my pale legs and not-as-toned arms as I had hoped for!  (Side note … never in my life have I posted a swimsuit photo, so don’t miss the carefully placed coverups and sandals!) This is ALL about keeping it real – hah!

Read here about more favorites from our spring break Hawaii vacation!

Swimsuits that made the cut

I absolutely loved the white J.Crew ruffle swim, and for reference I purchased a small.  I paired it with the side-tie bottoms because I have a theory: the skimpy side ties are much more slimming than wider bottoms.

This year was the first year I’ve purchased one-piece swimsuits.

The reason? Well, they’re making a comeback this season — which means if styled with a chic hat and glamorous sunglasses, they make much more of a statement by the pool!  The two swimsuits from Amazon here are here were actually a mistake purchase (someone in my family hit the buy button before I could remove them) but for under $30, why not keep them? The J.Crew navy one with the scallop trim arrived AFTER our trip, but I decided to keep it because it’s super cute.  The yellow L Space underwire top is a little on the sexy side given its push-up capability, so sorry no photos of this one (wink)!

coverups I packed and loved

The key to any sunny vacation is a good coverup, so here’s the place to invest and buy several.  There are so many good ones, it was really difficult to choose! The ones above are what I packed on the trip, and I’ll show a few more favorites below that are worth considering.  Please note the Chelsea 28 strapless dress is currently sold out, but KEEP CHECKING!  The inventory changes daily and one is bound to show up!
