12 super cool trench coats

Leather trench | Staud tote | Balenciaga shoes

This faux leather trench coat I’m wearing is ridiculously cool and wearable, and it’s still available for anyone who wants to give it a try.  (I wrote about it here in a previous post, along with a few other favorite leather jacket options).  I plan on wearing this one throughout spring, or until our rainy Portland weather switches gears and it gets sunny again.  Until then, I’ve been wondering which lightweight, springy version might replace this cool leather trench?

After doing a little research (looking at street style trends, analyzing Pinterest and browsing through some of my top websites like vogue.com and others), I’ve come up with 12 solid options, including these two that SOMEHOW ended up in my shopping cart. Imagine that 😉

A little inspo …

Leather trenches to buy

Option #1:

Try a classic trench, but make sure it has some updated details like this fun one with red trim, or this A.L.C with its modern details and a ruffled back.

wear with lighter-wash Straight leg denim

and a neutral go with everything mule

option #2:

A soft, drapey style like this well priced one by Halogen is universally flattering. It comes in black or in this pretty shade of red. Whichever one you choose, you can count on wearing your trench to wear with many, many different things you already own — everything from a dress, to a slim black pant and heels, to your favorite jeans. Throw it over ANYTHING you are wearing and it will complete your outfit.

And a versatile court shoe

option #3:

One more thing.  Today while helping one of my favorite clients, we were discussing trench coats, and she said to me “in San Francisco, where I work, the rainy season has ended. Trench?” and I gently replied “remember, it’s not just a rain coat … it’s also a fashion piece!”  We both had a good laugh and she said “that’s why I have you!”  So there you go.  Buy a trench because it’s stylish and you will be happy you did!
